Round 5 of the NRL season continues tonight when the Newcastle Knights and St George Illawarra Dragons square off at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle. Join The Roar for live scores from 8pm (AEDT).
Kiwi prop Leo Thompson will return from a one-game ban for Newcastle and Dane Gagai is back from his undisclosed medical condition. Tyson Gamble has been dropped for Jackson Hastings with Jack Cogger sliding over to five-eighth.
Dragons coach Shane Flanagan makes just one change, swapping Hame Sele and Michael Molo.
Newcastle have been dreadful and St George Illawarra only marginally better in the first four rounds but the home-ground advantage should be enough for the Knights. Knights by 4

Remember the old SCG wet weather games. The mud pit in the middle where the wicket square was. Mud Mud and more Mud!!

Well done Newie. And a big clap for all the fans who’ve sat in the pouring rain today. League belongs to you.

Wet but not as bad as I’ve seen in our 2 games today. How do these modern fields hold up so well in this weather??!! These players would have looked indistinguishable due to mud not long ago.

Back in the day,60s/70s a bloke would run on now and then with a bucket of water,so the players could wash the mud from their eyes.

The snorkel, goggles, fins and wet suit worn by a fan was the best and most appropriate jersey there tonight.

Good finishing. That’s the kick Lomax needed rather than the pass he threw straight into the oppo hands.
