Round 1 of the 2021 NRL season wraps up with a derby as the arch rival St George Illawarra Dragons and Cronulla Sharks do battle at Kogarah. Stay up to date with their NRL clash with live scores on The Roar from 6:15pm (AEDT).
The Dragons didn’t finish all that low on last year’s ladder, but they’re still looking for huge improvement after what’s been a disastrous few seasons. New coach Anthony Griffin looks to have his work cut out for him though, with St George Illawarra a popular wooden spoon pick. They’ll be looking to start their season off with a statement win against their local rivals.
Cronulla did manage to play finals football last year – and were far from embarrassed in their elimination final loss – but a lack of consistency across the last two seasons means they’re also a popular pick to tumble down the ladder. They’ll be on a similar hunt for early success to silence the doubters.
These sides split their meetings a season ago, with the Dragons getting up 30-16 in Campbelltown and the Sharks getting revenge, 28-24, at Kogarah. These sides have split their last ten meetings at five apiece and a win for Cronulla would level the all-time series between these sides (since the joint venture) at 23-23-1.

But if he wasn’t there someone else lets in the two and doesn’t score the one… ANd two tries is very harsh, that first botch up was all Captain Hunt… (almost wrote something else..) and there were others to cover the second.

"ure" Rob? If you don't like my comments then why read them Rob? You read them because you want to read them Rob. I'll help you with that though. Sorry Rob (aka "Snow") but you are banned from reading my comments or replying to me for the next 2 weeks. DON'T make me make it a month!

Ugh. Just got back from the match. Poor by the Dragons against a poor Sharks side. And to make it worse I was sitting not far from a gloating Scott Morrison.

What’s the dragons rotation policy? Can he defend from the bench?

Didn’t go on with it in the second half but still a win and good start to the season for the Sharks - considering they have an opposite record to the storm for round 1, a win is good. Very good signs in the first half that another pre-season for the youngsters in the team has improved defence and handling errors... but will reserve judgement on that seeing how they get through the next two weeks facing better opposition in the raiders and eels. Anyways for a team that genuinely start the season slow, will take the win ???? Up Up!

Yeah, that’s one way to do it but I feel he will be a liability there as well. Once the ball goes up, it’s a lucky dip

Bad luck DP, Soda, Scott & all the other Dragons, not the greatest game, but, more good signs this time than I saw last Season. Congrats Sharks, a win; not top 8 standard though.

Commiserations champ. Next week the Dragons play the Cowboys in Townsville. It could be a lot worse.

What can you say about Saints?? Year after year they fail on the field yet continue to fail off it as well. One old boy said some decades ago that winning starts in the front office. Buggared if I know what the solution is.

Gonna have to get him defending on the wing

Yeah, I can't see any other team wanting him either. Perhaps he is destined for superleague. He'd carve that up

I don't get the hate for Woods, his stats last year of 130m per game and 32 tackles a game at 95% effectiveness means he's still one of the better props in the NRL
