Match result:

The Sydney Roosters have stormed home over the Gold Coast Titans, winning 58 to 6. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the SCG the home side were never in doubt as they scored all over the park and kept the Titans to a solitary try.

James Tedesco and Latrell Mitchell both scored doubles as Brett Morris scored a first-half hat-trick to make up seven of the Roosters’ ten tries. It was a day for the little men as no forward managed to get over the white stripe on either side.

The Titans will be left wondering what just happened as they were completely outclassed from the first set (where they gave a way a penalty) to the last (where they let in a try). Ash Taylor was poor outside one nice pass on the inside that set up a try and Titans fans will be hoping this was simply a rusty return after a long break.

Interim Titans captain Proctor was decent in the first half but in the second he was invisible along with the entire Titans forward pack.

On the other side of the park the Roosters looked like a predator playing with its food as they tried interesting and different tactics every set. All the combinations are firing at the right time of year and this will be a nice boost to their points difference.

A simple game with a predictable result but nevertheless it was very enjoyable to watch a team have so much fun together and the Roosters are undeniably a premiership favourite if what we saw today was any indication. The Titans will be left soul searching before a long offseason.

Final score
Sydney Roosters 58
Gold Coast Titans 6

Match preview:

The Sydney Roosters and Gold Coast Titans are set to do battle on a glorious Sunday afternoon at the famous SCG. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting at 2pm AEST.

The Roosters will be looking to ensure Manly cannot catch them in the race for the top four with a strong win in this game.

The Roosters are sitting on 26 points with a healthy points difference so a big win could put them back into second spot just a little over a month before finals begin.

The Titans also have a lot to fight for but it is at the complete opposite end of the table, with the club in danger of collecting its second wooden spoon.

After a pre-season that promised so much, with Mal Meninga joining the administration, the Titans should be trying everything they can to move out of last place.

While recent history definitely favours the Sydney side, the Gold Coast do not have the worst record against the Roosters, having won almost half the fixtures since their introduction into the comp in 2007

The Roosters squad has had a major change up this week with both props, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Siosiua Taukeiaho, out due to suspension and injury respectively.

Boyd Cordner is also out with injury meaning Trent Robinson will have a very different pack when he takes on a desperate Titans team, perhaps signaling a chance of an upset.

These forced changes have levelled the playing field in the middle and this is where the key matchup will occur. If the Titans forward pack, led by an experienced Nathan Peats, can get an edge on the Roosters big men, led by a rookie in Sam Verrills, then we could have a game on our hands.

However, the Titans have time and time again given away the game with silly penalties and unforced errors and if they do that against a team featuring Cooper Cronk and Luke Keary they will pay dearly.

Prediction
Roosters will run riot as their new forwards fight to establish themselves as first graders against an uninspired Titans team.

It was like one of those dead possums or rabbits you see on the road that's been run over about 100 times - you'd need a shovel to get it off the road

The Titans may as well forfeit their matches for the rest of the season if they are going to put in that sort of performance. You would be licking your lips if they are in your draw for the run home.

Won't be good enough for him - they should have scored 100 - heads need to roll! Hopeless coach. Hopeless players. No chance in the finals.

How garbage is Nathan Peats these days. He's not nrl standard anymore. Hooker is a serious issue for the titans for next year.

He's just there for the glory and the good publicity he doesn't want to face the firing squad I expect. There are under 12's sides running around that are better organised than the Titans at the moment. Yrah, and defensively speaking, I know the Rabbitohs aren't far behind at present.

I'd commiserate with Titans fans but I doubt any of them were watching the game from the pub. Too busy drowning their sorrows I would think. I'd congratulate Roosters fans but really, how hard is it to run over roadkill?

Is Mal still employed by the Titans as an ADVISOR. What advice is he giving them? Where to stand when the opposition takes a conversion?

I don't see why Mal Meninga can't be their interim coach. He wants to ride in like the cavalry but he doesn't want to face any bullets.

I understand that Brennan deserved to be sacked but why would the club put nothing in place for the rest of the season so that it just becomes meaningless? These blokes are just phoning it in and not putting in anything for the jumper. I hope Holbrook is taking some notes. The place needs a complete flush out. All their big signings – Cartright, Shannon Boyd, Peachey etc have been a monumental waste of money. I remember the days when they would scrap and fight for an unlikely win but now they are just dreadful.
