...and the Storm haven't been boosted at all? I'd say that by being the most successful club in Australia for a couple of decades has probably helped them. Don't think the Swans got massive amounts spent on them in the early years, but that doesn't suit your narrative

Swan's crowds have ben boosted by a number of factors SL war, culling and merging of Sydney clubs,37 years of existent, massive amounts spent on marketing, a far more generous media, consistent appearances in finals series The Storm have been in Melbourne since 1998 ,far less time, far less media exposure, a Salary cap debacle, finals series appearances. All this with little junior base in that State. it is as Craig stated ,comparing "apples with oranges."

Stop comparing apples and oranges!! Swans crowds are excellent for Sydney where there isn't a culture of attending matches, Storm crowds are poor for Melbourne considering how good they are, where they'll go to anything. Also, Swans membership and crowds aren't poor - they're about half way - certainly not towards the bottom

Iv been saying it for months , Beattie will destroy the NRL and skulk off into the sunset with a great wad of cash .

I know a lot of people don't have much faith in Greenberg and Beattie but I think they know what the NRL can and can't afford more than you do. An NRL club costs significantly less to run than an AFL club as well.

NRL will sign off on new licensing agreements, NO CLUB WILL LOSE ITS LICENSE IF IT GOES INTO $$$$ PRESSURE HOWEVER NRL HAS POWER TO RELOCATE ANY CLUB THAT REQUIRES $$$$

I don’t think Mergers or relocations work. Have a proper second tier, keep all teams and add a couple of new ones. Get games back in the suburbs.

@clipper Stop comparing apples and oranges!! The Swans crowds and membership are poor when you compare them to other AFL teams in the AFL. The Storm is in the top tier for crowds and memberships in the NRL. They are very successful in the NRL. The Storm are way more successful than the Swans.

You talk about Sydney having "tribal bugs" but as soon as ANY talk starts up about a second team in Brisbane, which should have happened 20 years ago, millions of Brisbanites go ballistic. I'd suggest it's not only Sydneysiders that need a good wake up call, Brisbane could easily host another team, no problems.

That’s what they said in 1998 , it didn’t last 20years , greed $$$$$ , player , corporate greed on mass has now come back to bite everyone, the greatest years of rugby league are dust ,

Ask the boss ! The NRL without tv has nothing , zero , the AFL could choose who it wishes to broadcast its products it could tell fox to go and it wouldn’t affect it at all something NRL can’t because it sold its soul, proof will be there to see within 12 months when relocation/ expansion details are released

Add in WarHorse that the Storm systematically cheated the salary cap and the game between 2006 and 2010 (almost half of their existence at the time) whilst owned by News Limited (who also co-owned the NRL), they'd be the greatest embarrassment for expansion in any sport anywhere. The fact that several players knowingly signed multiple contracts and were in on it and got no punishment (lifetime bans, etc.) is another story.

I think the Swans have been far, far more successful than the Storm - double the average attendance of the nearest NRL club in Sydney, whereas the Storm still don't have a bigger attendance than the worst AFL club in Melbourne. If you mean by results, then yes, you are absolutely correct

"Storm greatest expansion club". Only because they have been proped up by news ltd and the NRL over the last 20 years. They would have died very quickly without all that support. Yet no Sydney club would ever get that sort of favouritism
