THROWBACK: The most controversial call in rugby league history?

By The Roar / Editor

Let’s hope the Roosters-Raiders Grand Final rematch is not as controversial as the ‘Six again’ call which Raiders fans will never forget.

The Crowd Says:

You can win all the mid-season grand final rematches you want. Won't get you the Provan-Summons.

They spent 10 minutes against 12 players in the last 20 min of the game and couldn't score!!They more likley would have dropped the ball or been pushed into touch becuase they were desperate.

I can't believe people are still complaining about this. The Raiders had 80 minutes to score and could only manage to score once. They didn't even come close to scoring after that. The reason they lost is because they couldn't break down the Roosters defence, not because Cummins changed his mind (to the correct call). The better side won. End of story!

Not correct but a misleading six again call that stopped the Raiders from kicking the winning field goal. The two referee system flaws were exposed in the biggest game of the year. Easts were lucky and the Raiders weren't.

Click bait. Correct call. Roosters win. End of story. BTW all these “but the roosters trainer...” stories fail to mention the charge down took out Keary’s legs in the air. Straight up penalty to the roosters. But you know haters gonna hate.

Absolutely. No question the Raiders would have scored on the next set. Because of course equally no doubt Wighton's kick would have got them six again, and definitley not been a seven tackle 20m restart for the Roosters like his previous kick. Totally robbed.

refereeing 101, don't change your call even if it's an error unless there's a stop in play and you have new evidence. Imagine - Vunivalu keeps going in the semi-final even after the touchie raised his flag and then after a few meters the touchi dropped his flag and changes his mind - and while raiders are bewildered, Vuni scores...

Thank goodness the NRL spent all that money on the bunker... and now no-one talks about ref’s ruining games anymore. Two on field refs, what are the players supposed to do if they make opposite calls? What does “play to the whistle” mean? There is no remedy that is fair to both teams. How can this situation possibly be avoided when there are 2 refs officiating general play at the same time?

On a side note does Keary trip Wighton? I'm not sure how JWH is never penalised for lifting the elbow when running at defenders?

Yeah it was a stuff up the likes of which parody couldn't replicate but Leilua did bomb a try by not passing to Rapana on the wing. Weighton obviously played the visual signal given and to try and then verbally reverse it in the din of 80k fans was never going to work as hoped. What I found most perplexing, amongst a plethora of other contradictory rulings on almost identical plays, was the outcome from a Sydney Roosters trainer interfering in play. I thought 14 men on the field was a big no-no and despite all the previous column space dedicated to trainers extended time behind the attacking team's line- yet here we are. It really was just a matter of time-and that time was only the GF of all games. That the NRL stuck their head in the sand on the issue for so long is condemning of the leadership and management of the game.

If the touchie from that sharks game a while back got dropped for raising his flag, Cummins has to be dropped for raising his arm and signalling 6 again...

Surely Ben Cummins is entitled to wave to Nick Politis when he spots him in the crowd?
