Location: regional NSW Likes: StGeorge and Cronulla since childhood in NRL. Barca in the Champions League. But happy to applaud entertaining footy and boo catty play and shitty calls regardless of which team is playing. Played: league, soccer, basketball, swimming, boxing, cricket... until I discovered surfing. Dislikes: Studs raised tackles, sharpened old-school screw in studs, catty/dirty players, cheap shots, players who sook and carry on when their opponents give their own medicine back to them, petty ROAR contributors who throw a tantrum or resort to personal snarkiness when someone has a different opinion to their own. Sooks. Baristas... stop faffing about and pour the bloody milk!

Has played wing, centre and fullback… and has proven to be a capable NRL winger. Jury is out on whether he can be successful at either centre or fullback in the NRL.

'Disgraceful', 'knee jerk', 'ill-conceived publicity stunt': Hagipantelis fires back after Tigers day of drama

“Going nowhere under Tim Sheens”? Wow. I thought Sheens was doing exactly what he was brought back to do – to cop all the flak so Benji could focus on coaching the team. But the board was too spineless to stick with their own plan… again.

Pressure Points: Benji is the unseen party in the Tigers' boardroom upheaval - but he might benefit the most from it

Not my club, I didn’t understand the ownership structure. I had never realised the board of the club was subservient to another entity that could sack the entire board and the CEO whenever they wanted. My only questions is: If another entity owns 90% and can exercise this decisive authority and control… why did it take them so long to act, aren’t they also responsible for the past 10 years of chaos and disappointments?

'It's about time', 'best news in a decade', 'thank god': Legends' glee at Tigertown carnage as Wests sack board

Yes, the Dolphins were nowhere in 3/4 line defence with injury and repeated changes in personnel… AND Garrick and Saab did everything well, Garrick is a very good player and Saab positioned himself well, not too flat. Garrick has been swapped around from wing to fullback to centre and he plays all positions very well. Now he has added the Gidley flick pass. Excellent combination with Saab developing.

ANALYSIS: Seibold's biggest statement yet as Manly raise 50 - but the Dolphins collapse is well and truly on

Garrick is a ripper, his footy IQ and his anticipation are first class and he never stops moving, he is wholehearted and in the game for the full 80. Underrated.

ANALYSIS: Seibold's biggest statement yet as Manly raise 50 - but the Dolphins collapse is well and truly on

Tom was excellent, he and Garrick are non stop all game and always seem to be a step ahead watching and anticipating what is coming before it happens. They combine so well with each other and also with DCE. Garrick is a wholehearted, smart footy player, now playing centre with a Gidley offload to his winger. He roams the field and chases everything, he has sprinted from right centre to position himself in support of Tommy Turbo’s break to take a pass in the left centre position, and then Tom has stayed alive to receive a return pass and score under the posts. The rest of the Manly team was still in the back field wondering what happened. Looking at the second Garrick try off the ridiculous Croker kick, it was Tommy T line break and offload to Croker, great effort by Garrick, poor effort by the Dolphins chase, but the key point I noted was that Tom was already back on his feet after being tackled/offloading looking for another opportunity to provide support. Whatever was going on through the first half of the season, he was everywhere, in everything and looks in great nick now. For the Dolphins, don’t be too harsh, their young halfback is just back from serious injury and it’s a new combination for him with Nikorima (who was excellent). Their centres are busted and were too slow and they are cobbling together defensive combinations on both sides of the field. This will improve. The concern I had was their middle – that’s where they have experience and need to play much stronger.

Paulo is outstanding. Getting over the Souths pack without RCG and Lane is worthy of note. Are Parra competitive without Moses or Paulo… or are they vulnerable like the Broncos without Hass or Reynolds? Good win for Parra and their coaching team against the form team in the comp.

ANALYSIS: Souths cop physical battering from powerful Parra - and get found out

I understand the concern about having Gagai marking up on Latrell, but it would have been fun to watch. Let’s see how Hammer goes.

Queensland Origin I team: Slater reveals 'hardest call I had to make' as star trio dumped while key forward dodges ban

Good team. I wonder how the conversation went with Ponga, but if anyone is in a position to make that call it is Slater. I bet the Knights are pleased he can now focus on playing club footy at #6 where says he wants to play.

Queensland Origin I team: Slater reveals 'hardest call I had to make' as star trio dumped while key forward dodges ban

We will miss Jake, he it simply outstanding even at Origin and rep level. I feel for Campbell Graham who has done everything to earn selection this season and last season, and now rotten timing for a sternum injury. I feel for Cook, I don’t disagree with the reasoning but it’s still a close call. My concern with the squad is players just back from injury (Liam Martin and Fox), and To’o who has looked like he is playing with a leg injury and is not moving freely. Hopefully all fit and healthy by game day. And… we will miss Jake.

NSW Origin I team: Hynes, Pangai, Young to debut, Turbo, Frizell, Foxx back but duo ruled out in new-look side

You’ve probably got this covered Paul. For mine, I’d love to see Fifita coming off the bench with energy and power, he is a remarkably talented footballer aside from his strength… but I don’t know how many powerful minutes anyone can reasonably expect from him at SOO intensity and i couldn’t pick Fifita in the starting 13. Not a knock on him at all, I actually think his skills are underrated. The other player I wonder about is Ponga. Nothing to do with his ability or commitment, it’s the fragility of his head. He’ll probably have a blinder if picked, but more so than any other player in the comp he is one innocuous bump from being out of the game via HIA. How do you cover that risk in SOO? Why do you need to if you have Walsh playing so well?

Queensland Origin I team: Slater reveals 'hardest call I had to make' as star trio dumped while key forward dodges ban

To’o looks like he’s playing injured. He has that leg heavily strapped and at limes he’s lumbering around like Boris Karloff.

NSW Origin I team: Hynes, Pangai, Young to debut, Turbo, Frizell, Foxx back but duo ruled out in new-look side

Hey Paul, what happened to Jake? You’ve got him in your team in the article but he’s dropped off the team list at the end. You have to play Jake, surely Freddy learned that lesson last year. Manly are certainly lost without him.

NSW Origin I team: Hynes, Pangai, Young to debut, Turbo, Frizell, Foxx back but duo ruled out in new-look side

Leota is playing brilliant footy. He was in the Kiwi team for the world cup, in a very strong forward pack.

Loving the optimism. Let’s hope, messy as it is right now, that this is the start of a plan for sustained success for StG.

Hook is cooked... but it'll mean nothing unless the Dragons change everything

2 1/2 seasons of continuing the previous coach’s uncertainty and magic roundabout selections for the StG spine combination. Still didn’t have this worked out and flip flopped not just between games but within a single game.

Hook is cooked... but it'll mean nothing unless the Dragons change everything

“the chairman said he would not be rushed on the decision”, immediately after rushing to sack Griffin (who was already in a caretaker role) before they had a secured a replacement coach. Yep, that’s the current StG chairman, sticking to a “principled” approach. Seriously, what a jellyback.

And StG is reported to have knocked Hunt back on inclusion of a “if the coach changes” get out clause in his contract

NRL News: Surprise new expansion bid launched, Walker holds out hope for Origin, Dragons confident Hunt will stay

Well that is an extraordinary decision by the StG board. They extend his contract for another season. This gives them the opportunity to embark on an orderly process to find and recruit a new coach, effectively placing Griffin in a lame duck caretaker role. Then the board doesn’t have the nerve to stick to their process and sacks Griffin less than half way through the season and before they have completed their orderly process, before they have secured a replacement, and they throw the assistant coach Ryan Carr into the deep end. I guess if the plan is to run a crude experiment to see if the current assistant coach can sink or swim is one way to find out if he’s worth retaining as a member of the new coaching team for 2024. Good luck Ryan. I guess you’ll find out pretty quickly if you’ve been given the role of organ grinder or monkey.

Dragons board sacks Griffin as wooden spoon fears grow but club claims season can be salvaged

NSW will miss Jake, as are Manly. I don’t see them playing Tom T but I hope they have him and Jake in the squad and in camp even if they are not fit to play. I hope Campbell Graham gets a run this series, he has been in the squad the last couple of years and his form is current form is red hot. For Qld, I’d be selecting the very experienced Kaufusi. A proven Origin player and international. If Fafita is selected, his role is surely an impact forward off the bench? His skills are underestimated IMO, he is good enough for sure but can anyone expect 80 minutes of effort on effort at Origin intensity. It’s not a reasonable expectation.

Round 11 Talking Points: Rising stars put their hands up for Origin debuts ... but don't expect many

Canberra is currently equal third on points, so… in the absence of serious injuries… sure. Qld should bite the bullet on Ponga now. He is one bump away from concussion loss in every game, and he has chosen to play 5/8 at club land. Walsh is the form fullback and Ponga is too much of a risk now for a club to pay good money for him, never mind reliability for 80 minutes at SOO intensity. And maybe he’ll be picked and play a blinder, but he is now in a unique risk category all on his own.

Round 11 Talking Points: Rising stars put their hands up for Origin debuts ... but don't expect many

How did he get the job at the Broncos? He must have delivered impressive performance somewhere to be employed for that job.

A deep dive into why Anthony Griffin should be embarrassed about his team list

So the news being reported about Griffin is… total speculation? The news is that at some point StG board will make a decision and contract a head coach for 2024… as they have said. But it is still nothing but speculation that Griffin will be sacked rather than see out his contract, and still nothing but speculation about who StG favours as their preferred head coach for 2024.
