Can’t believe people get worked up about this ad. The Mitchell section is a bit cringeworthy but hardly virtue signalling.

They pulled to change the Turbo age inaccuracy and to play down super league.

So in what regard is it divisive but that doesn't cover one side of the divide being offended by it. How has the divide occurred without offence at the message? It's only divisive because you chose to take a different view, isn't that what you say to anyone who is offended by anything (except yourself)

He said it was pathetic and divisive. Sure seems like he took offence to the add

NRL Marketing team round table. Boss: Let me get this straight, we've thrown a bucket of money at this season launch campaign and we are rehashing a 20yo campaign with an 80yo singer no one under 45yo has heard of? Who is going to watch that? We need buzz and you've given me the 'brown note'. Tell me why I shouldn't sack you all right now?" Marketing: "There's 10seconds of Latrell and 2 lesbians kissing" Boss: "... you just bought yourself a bigger house"

You’re a broken record you just keep saying it’s divisive, it’s politicisation, it’s divisive, it’s politicisation I’m asking you WHY it’s either of those things. You can’t even begin to articulate it...your best response is “you work it out” Why is 10 seconds of an indigenous man in a rugby league ad either right wing or left wing ?

what it means is that things like flags and land rights and all this stuff are what came with the “white man” and you missed the point where I said that I have aboriginal friends who clearly state that that flag does not represent them so there is even division in the Aboriginal community over it. BTW I have lived out west in areas of high Aboriginal populations Dubbo to be specific, my wife was actually born in Moree her grandparents lived there. I have spent a lot of time around the Nambucca , Taree area and have family in Mudgee . I have Aboriginal friends so please do not get the idea that my comment in regard to political correctness has any racial connotations about it, far from it. However an Aboriginal man draped in an Aboriginal flag does not represent the many and diverse cultures that play the game of Rugby league

I have a heap of weird & wonderful friends none of that fazes me Carlotta was an example of someone that is famous and everybody should know a little about..... I have had Homosexual friends since my school days one of my best mates at high school was. I had a girlfriend that was actually bi sexual...My Aunt was a well regarded Australian actress and I have been to functions with the likes of Gordon Chater & Stewart Wagstaff & Graham Kennedy taking the mickey out of each other and it was a riot and none of what was said would pass the "political Correctness test"of this day & age I guarantee you that much. However none of that is the point ...from my perspective it should have been all about the footy ..the game ...the on field spectacular stuff that draws people to the game those spectacular AFL like takes by some of the full backs and those freakish 7.6 degree of difficulty winger try's that would leave the likes of Greg Louganis in awe...........THe same should have applied to the girls game as well. Rugby league is the toughest most gladiatorial game on this planet and they are all simply the best regardless if their origins are Tongan, English , Maori Samoan , Aboriginal , Italian , Lebanese , Kalathumpian or a mix of all and gay as well .....

It’s blatant politicisation, if you’re incapable of recognising that , I suggest you get back to watching Q&A . Because there’s no political bias on there either.

Big Daddy that’s the point, the ads not offensive but very divisive, Rugby League should never be used ( all sports for that matter) to push any social agenda ANY! Sport is life’s out, leave it alone

Insider, if that's true they are pulling the ad you have to ask why did they put it on in the first place. I'm one of those Old white males as TWAS puts it and it seems there is quite a few of us. The ad itself doesn't offend me as such but the NRL really didn't think this through . I'm not sure who they employ but they regularly come up with bloopers that make themselves look very amateurish.

Johnny ripe My political preference is not left . Yet I have no problem with an aboriginal flag or a photo of women kissing .. why should I be incensed .. it’s over the top to get angry about this ad . It’s small potatoes . Most people are mature enough to be able to see left or right of politics. Most people are neither left or right , they are just a mix of moderate opinions It’s really just a small amount of people who are riled up about this .. a tiny fraction .

Watch back the original ad from 1990. Tina Turner is in shot for the majority of the clip. The focus is pretty much Tina Turner, not the game. There are also shots of players in suits and walking her from a helicopter and numerous other things that have nothing to do with the sped and power of the game. It seemed a pretty successful campaign.

The original ad in 1990 had Mark Soden in it. A very average player, certainly not "the best". Or was he blonde enough and white enough that it wasn't a problem?

No you haven’t You get asked why it’s divisive and respond with gobbledygook about Clinton and burkas Mitchell doesn’t represent a political party so your Hanson comparison is ridiculous He’s representing his people not a political party... it’s you that’s politicising it not Mitchell or the NRL

In answer to a simple question “why is an indigenous man quietly holding an indigenous flag divisive?” we get garbled drivel about Clinton and burkas I don’t think you know why you think it’s divisive, it’s so deeply ingrained. You certainly can’t articulate it Anyway you’re coming in at this from the wrong angle. Those images are there to help other people feel included not to lecture you about anything The comparison with Hanson is ridiculous. She’s the leader of a political party. Mitchell doesn’t represent any political party. He’s just an indigenous man with an indigenous flag - you’re the one politicising it

I have already , “ political preference “. This is the exact same rubbish we saw on Australia Day a few years ago , with the burka clad kids . And it’s exactly why Billary , Hillary and Corbin got pasted in recent elections. As the Noosa Duck has pointed out , we all know that people of other persuasions exist , but sport is a release for most , and we don’t need a lecture about social issues in the promotion of it . Just imagine the squawking if Pauline Hanson was draped in an Aussie flag as part of the promotion.
