The Hurricanes and the Chiefs meet in the final match of round seven on Sunday at Sky Stadium, Wellington as both sides look to get their seasons back on track with an important victory. Join The Roar for live scores from 12:35pm AEDT.
The Chiefs will have been frustrated at their loss last week to the Crusaders and will want to bounce back with a victory over the Canes today. Unfortunately they will have to try and do it without key lock Brodie Retallick who is out for six to eight weeks with a broken thumb.
But the team has welcomed back some All Blacks talent with Josh Ioane and Anton Lienert-Brown which should see the Chiefs back line become even more imposing.
If the Chiefs are frustrated after their last performance, the Canes will be absolutely devastated. Losing to the Moana Pasifika is not something they would have expected and it has increased the intensity on the Canes club as many start to wonder if they’ve lost a lot of their aura from a few yeas ago.
Much was expected from the returning TJ Perenara but in the end he was out of form all game long and the Canes will need a much better performance from him today.
Interestingly Jordie Barrett has been moved to inside centre and that has drawn much criticism ahead of the game as pundits and fans wonder why he would be used in a crash ball position when he is far stronger at full back thanks to his catching, kicking and running in broken play.
The Canes will also welcome back skipper Ardie Savea at number eight and Du’Plessis Kirifi on the open side.

All fair Jacko.

The speed of the game looks quite different between two NZ sides and 2 Aus sides. Brums and Reds probably capable of defending it but Rebs are in trouble. Force and Tahs need to play well.

I was too. Don’t know why. For some reason I found myself willing the Chiefs to win. ( I had picked the Canes). Maybe it was the knee on that invisible leg that swayed me?

Surely Jacko. But there were some lightning offloads in that Chiefs attack.

Also, perhaps the offence wasn't dangerous enough to be a YC, it only would have been a YC if it prevented the try

Got a touch of the ball, the Savea juggled

I think the Canes can test most OZ defence too Ken. As will the Highlanders.

You only get the penalty from half way if the infringement was after the try was scored. Fair Q on the YC tho.

Excellent clutch kicking by Jordie.

I was certainly shouting at the ref in the first half Leggie!

Good game! Canes will be disappointed.. But, great to watch in the arvo sun. Canes now have the crusaders, gees not a team you want to face with the prospect of losing 3 straight. Jordie in the midfield.. actually might work, he’s certainly big enough for the role. On the midfield, Quinn Tupaea is getting better and better.

This bedazzles me too. So if a try is likely to be scored a defender can jam in using his knees on the blokes ribs, or collect the try scorers head knowing he'll get away with it?

It seems the try over-rides the foul playin the act of trying to prevent the try. The ref's comments were that had a try NOT been scored because of the shoulder charge, it would have been penalty try (under the posts). Does scoring the try negate the infringement? Why was a penalty not awarded to the Hurricanes at the restart?

How much better are they without Gatland? :stoked:

Yes, but too little too late. Ton of talent but not as much team.

Thought that the canes were getting the rub in the early part of the game. It may have turned later but the penalty against Chiefs for knee on ground when no knee was on ground was mind boggling. It seems that refs err both ways, but seem to err to please home crowds more often. MP were heavily reffed in Auckland last night. But this was an even bout and fairly won by Chiefs who brought most of the rugby. A DMac in that mix would’ve increased the Cane pain.

Great game. The Chiefs’ offloads will test Oz defences.
