The New Zealand All Blacks and Ireland meet again in the second Test. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 5:05pm AEST.

Scott Barrett will return to lock for the second Test against Ireland after the withdrawal of Sam Whitelock, with Dalton Papalii coming in at No.6 in the only change to the All Blacks starting team from the 42-19 win in Auckland.

Barrett performed strongly in the opening Test win at blindside flanker, but Whitelock’s delayed onset concussion and Tupou Vaa’i’s Covid sends him back into the second row.

David Havili, who missed the first Test with Covid, remains sidelined but Will Jordan is back on the bench.

The backline is unchanged from game one and there are two uncapped players on the bench in prop Aidan Ross and halfback Folau Fakatava.

Jordan has been named on the bench in place of Braydon Ennor, leaving Jordie Barrett and Leicester Fainga’anuku as options to cover the midfield.

“While I was delighted at how we performed and the leadership shown in the first Test match, we will need to really lift and improve in some key areas,” said coach Ian Foster. “We know the Irish will throw everything at us this week to keep the series alive.

“We’ve again had challenges this week, but we feel this team has laid a foundation to build on and is desperate to improve against a very determined Irish side.”

Dalton Papalii will wear the number six jersey alongside captain Sam Cane at seven and Ardie Savea at the back of the scrum.

“The backline remains unchanged with a plan to build on existing combinations from the previous week,” Foster said.

While this is the All Blacks eighth Test match at Forsyth Barr Stadium, it will be Ireland’s first Test match at the venue.

The All Blacks have won 40 out of 46 Test matches in Dunedin, with five losses, and one draw.

Johnny Sexton has been cleared to lead Ireland despite failing a HIA during the first Test. Subsequent tests found no concussive episode.

“Johnny is a world-class rugby player,” said Ireland’s attack coach Mike Catt. “He demands high standards and ultimately you want to get to a player-driven environment. That’s what Johnny brings. He brings a lot of confidence around him too. It’s business as usual for Johnny really, but it does help, yeah. It helps everyone, us learning from him too.”

Meanwhile, Aussie Mack Hansen is set to return after missing the Eden Park loss after his bout of Covid.

“Yeah, Mack’s cool,” said Catt.

“He’s got a real understanding of the game, a really good rugby brain. He’s exceptionally skilful too, so again we’ll see. He trained very well today so it’s nice to see him back because it is very hard for those guys who’ve been isolated for 10 days.

“They just want to get out and do more and more and more. So it’s great to have him back.”

Why is the kicker entitled to silence? No one complains the hooker should get silence to throw a lineout or a 9 to feed a scrum?

Hope that single malt was Irish! I worked as a barman once in Ireland and a yank walked in and asked me for a scotch. While pouring he added ” And make sure it’s an Irish Scotch”.

Good point about Stan. As an Irishman watching my nerves were shot anyway - but to lose the feed so many times did my head in.

Always blame the ref! What happened to you Kiwis and respect. To hear the kiwis boo every Irish penalty kick was a discredit to your reputation. In Dublin you could hear a pen drop as the Irish respect the kicker no matter the opposition. If your crowds are resorting to booing they either have become uneducated about the game or the chilling realisation has dawned on them that Ireland may, in fact, now win the series having a far better team than the All Blacks. Boo that! :silly:

If Fozzie stays lets just go through the next year as quickly as possible and flush the dunny of this period. Pity is that the players are there but this has been a highly wasteful period of a mediocre coaching regime. Worth noting that the North came back with a bang and won all their matches. Really SH needs to get its house in order. The RWC is looking ominous.

Farrell calmed the Irish down at half time and got them focused. The Irish backs don’t have a lot in attack and have a tendency to crab into each other

Whitelock all but single Handley won the game last week or at least set the standard up front allowing the backs room to roam.

Catching up!! Nah bro, the rest of the rugby world is overtaken us. Going off Dunedin we’re only drifting further behind. The ABs only score off opposition mistakes, very rarely do they create and execute a well constructed try these days. Ireland have a solid system that’s simple and effective. Andy Farrell is a far superior coach to Foster & his buddies. The ABs just hope the opposition is having an off day. Fosters only hope of winning this series is the Irish squad is depleted and getting tired after the MAB take them on midweek and a number of key Irish are injured. That’s the only thing the ABs have to give them any chance. Because Foster, Plumtree are clueless. They had a few ideas in Auckland, a couple of running plays that caught the Irish off guard. But Ireland adjusted.. The Dumbaz AB didn’t address the poor parts of our game. Didn’t develop anything alternative to counter the Irish ruck speed and systematic defence. That’s why we look clueless and out of ideas. Because we currently have nothing. Bring back Wayne Smith or something.. we’re heading into Dire Straights soon. NZ rugby brains can’t just sit on their hands and watch over 100 years of rugby go down the drain.

Tip from an Australian: anyone called "Scomo" makes a career out of being divisive but couldn't organise a barbecue in a crematorium. Relax, it's not about you.

It was a guy could Skomo in above comments calling me that. The Irish will be even tougher next week looking for a series win.

Foster is turning out to be another Mitchell, they both could not coach for Waikato and the ABs. How lucky Australia are to have Rennie, as he is as you know is the only coach to win SR Rugby for the Chief’s.

To be fair, I didn't see "sore loser" in your comments, more " how to get out of this hole!" But goodness, what a fine win for the Irish!
