Argentina and New Zealand go head to head in the second of tonight’s Rugby Championship double header at Suncorp Stadium from 8:05pm AEST.

The Pumas know that they are up against it but will want to put in a much better performance than last week when they didn’t register a single point. Meanwhile, the All Blacks will want to show that even with 11 changes, they are still a fearsome side that cannot be stopped. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog starting from 7:50pm (AEST).

The post-match review for the Pumas this past week would have been a brutal session. There really weren’t many positives at all for the Argentinians to get excited about.

Coach Mario Ledesma has made six changes to his side including some positional swaps. Juan Martín González will start as blindside flanker as Pablo Matera moves to the back of the scrum. The usually dominant Matera was targeted from the kick-off by the All Blacks and had a very quiet game.

Also in the pack, enforcer Tomas Lavanini will start in the second row and will give the Pumas pack a bit more edge in the loose.

In the backs the big change sees Nicolas Sanchez injured and out of the matchday team altogether.

Santiago Carreras will take his place and be backed up by Domingo Miotti on the bench. The 23 year old Carreras has never played at fly half for the Pumas but was part of the team that beat the All Blacks last year. Ledesma will be hoping his pack gets his young playmaker some quick, clean ball to settle himself early in the game.

Santiago Cordero shifts from the left to the right-wing in place of Bautista Delguy and Emiliano Boffelli comes off the bench to wear the no.11 jersey.

Outside Carreras will be a new centre partnership with Santiago Chocobares combining with Lucio Cinti.

Argentina must find a way to get into the game early. Last week the All Blacks had so much possession in the first half and the Argentine side were forced to make a huge number of tackles deep in their own half. This week the Pumas must get hold of the ball, hang on to it and build some pressure on the Kiwis.

Ian Foster has made even more changes – 11 in total as a new look All Blacks side will run out on Saturday. The All Blacks coached explained that “With five Tests in a row and a six-day turnaround between these two Argentinian Tests, we were always going to make some selection changes.”

The biggest one sees Damian McKenzie start at fly half. If the Pumas give him too much time and space he’s proven that he can slice teams apart but it’ll be interesting to see how he balances his running, passing and kicking game, especially in the first half.

The Kiwi pack has been switched over completely with Hoskins Sotutu and Ethan Blackadder joining Ardie Savea who will skipper the side. Tupou Vaa’i and Patrick Tuipulotu will be the starting locks and Tyrel Lomax, Samisoni Taukei’aho and Joe Moody will be the front row.

Prediction
A new look Argentina won’t mean a new look to the scoreboard. The Pumas will get on the scoreboard this week but they won’t trouble it that much and the Kiwis will run away with another win.

All Blacks by 18.

Agree, the Pumas second half they started to get their mojo back. Wallabies shouldn’t underestimate them.. After SA that might be a possibility. But, Rennie should keep their feet on the ground.

got to feel sorry for argies - some of their guys have to return to clubs coz Gallagher just started and its like a few weeks ago the last season ended. its really funny - the guys who went on the Lions tour are still on mandatory rest !!! the poor nations get the wrong end of the stick always - they are the donkeys pulling the carts. powers that be just talk and talk till its no longer news - the inequality between the top and next level is seriosly unfathomable.

24-3 at H/T, 36-13 at F/T So that’d be 12-10 to the All Blacks in the 2nd half, unless my maths is off . . .

its a pity Pari pari parkinson - Grace and Robinson are not around - just to see how they will adapt to test rugger . Vai needs to do a lot more . PT of course goes into lazy mode in tests for some reason. NZ have a dearth of high quality 2nd rowers - people talk a lot about the young guys like Strange and Lord and Selby Rikkett - but i think they are just like Vai - good for super rugger but average for tests.

thats the issue - he was only seen at the back of scrum !! :silly: after being used to an 8 like Read who could jump at defensive lineouts and run on a flank - Sotutu is a big step back. when Read was around both Crusaders and all blacks used to contest the defensive lineouts close to the try line - u no longer see that. against a team like SA or France or England - that can be a problem - coz they just need to maul 5 meters with clean ball.

Although I agree (in a moral sense)... the rankings system does not require 2 to beat 1 in order to claim top spot

True but we’ll only be no. 1 once we knock off no. 1, the Bokke, as fossie said.

No it’s not? Just do as you’re told and no problems. Here in Western Australia that’s exactly what we all did and are now benefiting from following that governmental (State) direction. Grow up I say

To be fair, they looked a lot like the Wallabies against NZ last night. Slow to get started, passages of sustained pressure they failed to finish off, and every mistake punished. I suspect they’re stronger than they looked, and the Wallabies underestimate them at their peril.

I wouldn't say Bridge is showing a lack of form, his ability to work past the point of contact and set up quick ball from a break has been impressive and his highball work is top-shelf. He is not the same attacking threat as R. Ioane or Reece though. I like Ioane on the wing and want to see some balance in midfield. That lends be towards a Tupea ALB midfield. I'm on record saying Havilli is great but both he and ALB have a tendency to be lateral which makes playing them together a bit tricky.

That's just making stuff up — in fact he made the most tackles of any AB, as well as the most offloads, the most runs of any AB forward, and the most lineout takes. Outstanding involvement.

Sotutu was involved in a bunch of tries. His work at the back of the scrum was great. He’s a natural 8

Reeks has to start no matter what. And with Bridge’s lack of form it looks like 11 is nailed down for him in the short term. Long term 13 is still on the cards as he’s a genuine game breaker and we need at-least one of those in the Mid field. Used to be Nonu and this was missing in the World Cup. Tupea like early Nonu needs to work on his passing/off load game

A couple of those missed tackles were because he was working hard trying to be involved in the action. He was going from ruck to ruck quite a lot and didn’t get in position when he tried to adjust to make tackles.

Taukei’aho is making great progress. Powerhouse scrummager, ball carrier and tackler. Come the 2023 World Cup Dane Coles may well be struggling especially with his age and is having quite a lot of injuries at the moment.
