Wales coach Warren Gatland has made six changes to his starting XV from the team that defeated Georgia last game for the opening quarterfinal against Michael Cheika’s Argentina Pumas in the first quarterfinal of the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Join The Roar for live updates.
Aaron Wainwright will wear the number eight jersey – for the 11th time in his 43rd test – in place of the injured Taulupe Faletau.
Regular captain and openside flanker Jac Morgan moves to blindside flanker. Tommy Reffell has been rewarded with a place on the openside after an impressive performance against Georgia: 18 tackles and three turnovers.
Gareth Davies and Dan Biggar return in the halves, with the later returning after injury. Josh Adams and Adam Beard return at left-wing and second-row respectively after being rested against Georgia.
Argentina meanwhile made two changes to their starting XV from the team that beat Japan to qualify.
Scrum-half Tomás Cubelli has replaced Gonzalo Bertranou and Facundo Isa has come in to Los Pumas’ back-row for the injured Pablo MateraAdvertisement

What are you talking about? The Argentine player went for a legal tackle on another player and the Welsh player that was hit was falling down and by that time he was almost on his knees. The ref's explanation was spot on... something we cannot say about the Yellow card not given to Wales in the first half (or did you see any wrap in that "tackle"?? ).

Congratulations, the Argentinian fans at the stadium sure represented your country well too. I hope you're all enjoying it as much as they were

Yeah gotta say that I hate the simulation aspect of it all and players pleading with the ref to card opposition. A really bad look, not what rugby should be about.
John
Silly statements such as, "I don't bother studying the opposition," certainly left him open to criticism. Agree that he seems to have developed his coaching tool box.

Argy very lucky to not lose a man during the game… the head high had no arms and whatever mitigation is nulled because its illegal tackles Wales can definitely feel miffed… a yello or red would have awung the game their way. A very mystifyiing decison by ref

What'll really frustrate Gatland is that their basics let them down. Congratulations Argentina, their fans and Cheika.

They've had rubbish club teams for a long time but have consistently been quarter/semi finalists these past four world cups. Much better than Ireland despite all their club trophies, although that could be about to change.

Constant, does not refer to your one and only comment on this live blog. But as I say, I like your passion and comments when talking about rugby. I just think this sort of commentary is rubbish and beneath you. Congrats on the win. I don’t know if it was against the odds, but their inaccuracy in the first half and lack of cohesion and fluidity in the backs needs to be addressed. I thought the Argentinian forwards went well and if their ball security was better, I think they would have been more convincing. I thought their first try when they rumbled over was important and something they deserved and were able to build off. I thought the decision not to YC the Argentinian player the right call, but have seen this go the other way plenty of times. I didn’t see you pointing out that being a good piece of refereeing, which went in the favour of Argentina. Which is why I think your bashing of the ref unbalanced and BS as you say. Hope the Argentinians play well in the semi, win or lose. When they play to their best they are a class side, so always happy seeing them progress and naturally support them over the NH sides. They are normally my second team after the AB’s so am pleased they were able to overcome Wales and am glad I got up at 2am to watch it, but then again I did expect them to

I guess if we are hopeless we can always rely on the old geographic bandwagon to clamber onto to pretend that we are all great mates south of the equator

Most have chosen to forget what he achieved at the Tahs. He took a team at its lowest ebb and turned them in a couple of seasons into SR champions. His early record with Wallabies was good too. I maintain that he’s the best Wallaby coach we had in a long time.
