The Wallabies will take on Argentina in the fourth round of this year’s Rugby Championship on the Gold Coast on Saturday evening.

This game should be a cracking affair as both sides have so much to play for in their own ways. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 8pm AEST.

Despite the win last week against the Springboks, the Aussies will know that one swallow doesn’t make a Spring.

The weather might be balmly up on the Goldie but with the Pumas there’s still a big chance of the winter returning to the Wallabies – don’t underestimate the Argentinians… they are a genuine threat.

Wallabies fans will have been smiling after picking up the win against the South Africans and why not, a win is a win.

But the nagging voices in the back of their minds would have got louder and louder during this past week as analysis and reviews indicated just how average a performance it was from the men in gold.

David Pocock, Israel Folau and Adam Coleman are all back in the side and that’s a fantastic boost for a side that have struggled for go forward.

The Aussies have averaged just 400 metres per game in this Rugby Championship, the worst of any team and they only managed 253 metres against the Boks.

In the backs the combination of Matt Toomua, Kurtley Beale and Will Genia will need to click and be better than it was last week.

It’s a big move by Cheika to keep Bernard Foley out of the starting 15 again and it’ll be interesting to see if these three players can unlock the Pumas defence.

It’ll also be interesting to see if Genia can get the team moving forwards better. His service has become a little less slick and harder to predict.

Runners seem to be taking the ball standing still and the defence able to cope relatively easily.

While it’s news that Dane Haylett-Petty gets to keep his spot at full back – Folau will play wing – the bigger news is that talismanic leader, Michael Hooper, has had to pull out due a calf injury.

The skipper has received his fair share of criticism over recent matches but there’s no doubting that the Aussies will miss him. Pocock will lead the team in his place – not a bad replacement!

For the Pumas they have a point to prove up front. They’ve improved as a team for sure under new coach Mario Ledesma but he was not happy with the way his pack got “torn apart”, in his own words, against the All Blacks last week.

To remedy this he’s brought in new players into the pack include Santiago Medrano and Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro.

The Argentinians put 24 points on the All Blacks last week (almost exactly the same as the Wallabies totalled in two games against the Kiwis) and they are averaging 26 points a game – much better than the Wallabies 16 points.

The Wallabies are the better side on paper but they are going to have to play well to get back to back wins.

Prediction
You’d expect the Wallabies to be favourites in this game and the bookies certainly think so, but this has upset written all over it.

Argentina to win by 5.

Tom G, you are right, they are a coaching problem. And I have no time for the Wallaby Coaches. But at this level it is not the Wallaby Coaches responsibility to improve their passing, catching, tackling skills, rucking skills - these should have been learnt at School, Club and development rugby through the ranks. This is the problem with Aus. Rugby the coaches at the lower levels are not trained correctly and so the players suffer. I was as blind as a bat when I played as a lock but I could catch and pass and with very few dropped balls and tackle and ruck - Downs Rugby and Brisbane Club A Grade Rugby - back in the 70's - so why can these blokes not do the same. The skills are not being taught and it alll goes back to the rugby admin in this country - no development of coaches and players through proper pathways since Jesus was a boy.

Mick, I assume by the time of my post here, you have read the news. The Rugby Fan abusing them was not the reaction by Tui. It was because said fan pushed his little sister. I would have reacted too and so would you if someone pushed my little sister. I can take the heat as can others put not when it impacts family through pushing or assault. Also Tui may well have not been in a good state of mind as his step-father died on Wednesday.

RobC - sorry mate, professional players should be showing better basic skills, passing, catching, kicking, running lines, talking, tackling. These are not the coaches' problems. They are the players problems. Also there appears to be no Rugby Smarts/Nous on the field. I do not disagree, the coaching is woeful, and Larkham should be ashamed of the attacking plans he has in place - there are none. He is unable to turn a "great player" as he was into a backs coach; lacking. Mick Byrne seems to be achieving nothing. The new forwards coach seems to be doing nothing. And Gray, well he is definitely found wanting. But there is no leadership on the field. No one who can do the on-field talking, and details.

The sooner Foley is gone the better Riddler. How you can't see that illustrates your complete lack of knowledge about rugby. He is a passenger who's presence requires both disjointed attack and defensive structures to make up for his deficiencies. Why you think you know anything about the game is a mystery.

Congrats Argentina. Close to what I expected. Izzy could have upset the upset. Pumas created more opportunities and performed like a great team to follow WBs are far too inconsistent. For a good part of 18 months, there is no repeatable formula to score territory and points, especially in special forces category (#6 to #10). Its sad. Fans shouldnt get too angry at the players. They are bruising and bleeding out there for us. It is the coaching.

Note to whinges: that’s how to construct a positive comment rather than “ load of rubbish, I’m off to watch the league”. Thanks freddie.

Paragraph. Not a sentence and the replies do rather typify the mentality of Roar children. Mind you, it’s probably the ideal outlet for former players, who were historically selected for the extra fifths!

Huge tactical error replacing Toomua with Foley. Cheik pulled the wrong lever. Beale should have been pushed to 12 and Toomua in to 10. Foley and Phipps were never going to bring us home. I have seen enough of Toomua in the last few games to believe that he is our best 10. He reads the game well, has great vision and throws great passes. Foley seems to be lacking self belief, direction and vision. The back line in just a mess when he is at 10. Folua has found a home on the wing. But like he I am not sure which wing. That experiment did work. No need to change it Cheik. Tui had a poor game. Hanigan really added very little while he was on. Not sure where to from here for Cheik. I think he desperately needs a forwards coach like Brad Thorne to get the set piece and breakdown organised.

Congratulations Argentina. Pride passion and teamwork. The better team won. Folau’s failure to pass sums up the Wobblies. Too many stars , with too few skills and a general lack of game awareness with players who play too infrequently on the same side. BTW Clash, I played in an under 13 team , and I can assure you we had at least the same amount of passion as today’s Wobblies and probably close to their skill level as well. So yes I do believe 12 year olds can comment.

The profile of rugby in Argentina is not tiny. Sure it's miles behind soccer but it's still a very popular sport. Fairly sure they have more registered players than Australia.

You should probably learn how to compose a sentence so that we 12 year olds can comprehend what you are trying to say.

Haha baffling. Beale runs sideways from 10, and apparently they don't practice unders lines at training, which leaves three players - Beale, the decoy, and the receiver, all standing in the one place. Terrific tactics that.
