Where was the video ref? They could have pulled it up earlier if it was so dangerous.

I thought the same thing but gave the ref the benefit of the doubt. Initial contact was low enough for me but he had called and did call other penalties in the game for shot that started low and came up around the neck/head area. My only beef was he went back in time to far to over rule the try.

They can go back further for foul play. If it was a suspected knock in it would have been awarded

No he didn’t because he wasn’t certain, he didn’t get a good enough look to be sure. I’d much rather a ref play it on and go back at a stoppage than make a call and stop play and turn out to be the wrong call.

im just wondering if it was within the two phases that are allowed for a TMO referral. already there was a case of a wrong decision against Chiefs a couple of weeks ago. im just wondering if there are changes to the Laws in this new competition that im not aware of. for eg - when i see replays of English premier league , the gap at lineout is 2 meters, but in Sh its one meter!! why two standards? is there a change? rugger is a tough game to follow with a plethora of Laws, this is even more confusing now....

he should have signalled penalty for a head shot - i am not sure he did , but im open to correction. in general im appalled at the rubbish way these touchies are reffing the game. they were made assistants with a view to give more powers to intervene - but they hardly do. perhaps its a SH thingy coz i see a lot of SH touchies get a lot more involved in reffing the game. a simple eg i see in NZ - there is hardly a crooked throw to lineout , with two guys watching it - but there are plenty every match.

A hit to the head isn’t a high tackle? Thank Christ you’re not a referee.

Having a try disallowed for what is basically a non event is a harsh penalty imo. Another Berry shocker.

It wasn't a late tackle. And it wasn't even a high tackle

Rhys, it was a neutral game for me, though I have a soft spot for the Brums. Two of my clubs have been feeders to the ponies over the years. But I found myself wanting the Reds to get up in this one. It seemed like they had most of the ‘rugby’, and of course more of their season on the line. That penalty looked like a good case to refer to an after match committee, rather than to wreck a try 60 metres and 12 phases away. I thought LSL looked lazy and arguably as culpable as Hodge vs Fiji, BUT ........ Anyway, a good game. We have to be grateful for that.

Yeah, as a Reds supporter I am fairly bummed about the loss and I do think that the ref was harsh on the Reds on a number of occasions, but it shouldn't overshadow what was a fantastically intense effort by both teams. There are times when it is best to get behind Aussie rugby.

Surely there are more highlights to this game than this ‘non-try’ and the final pushover maul try. Not promoting the game with these two controversial moments Roar Vid editors. Rugby videos really should show, yknow, rugby?

Mark Wright was hit high, but he’d touched the ball and knocked on so that is play on. Tackler doesn’t have to pull out of the tackle. I’m actually glad the ref let that play as he wasn’t sure it was a penalty but kept it in his mind to come back to.

Well maybe he should have picked it up at the time. Wright was hit high and without the ball, clear penalty any day of the week.
