This ref has been around for a while. He shouldn't be allowed near a rugby field. His last two games refereeing Oz sides has seen penalty counts of 20-1 and 11-2.
I agree mate. Ned seems very passive in himself. I was surprised it was him.
Even if the ref is being a complete &^%$ we need to ensure touching them is not an option (purely accidental contact aside). I cannot stand what football players can get away with towards the referees. Its a good part of rugby, league and aussie rules.
Is the contact from the two players (Hannigan and Marx was it?) a bit beyond acceptable? I agree the fella should be getting out of the way but those two pieces of contact seem a bit much to me.
Actually Marx’s was nothing. He was looking the other way.
Rugby is a contact sport for Refs. Just poor positioning. Do not have a problem with the ref giving instructions to players to leave the ball and make sure they can hear him even if it occasionally means he needs to touch the player...but not getting in the way! He is not ready for this level of rugby yet - pushed to early.
that should be automatic expulsion and exclusion as a ref.
like a player hitting a ref and being banned for life.
am amazed at this. i have never seen anything like it all my years.

Does show how easy it is clear Hooper off the ball

Totally agree, any intentional or even reckless contact with the ref is a slippery slope. There needs to be very firm responses to it.

I thought both looked a bit dodgy. Perhaps the players were a bit sick of him being so close to the action? Certainly not like Ned to be so rash.

Yeah it's ludicrous if this does not result in some sort of sanction.

He is not ready to ref at this level.

I reckon! Flanders should get 2 weeks minimum for deliberate contact to an official.
