Brisbane Roar will look to make it four straight wins when they take on the Melbourne Victory at Redcliffe’s Dolphin Stadium. Join The Roar from 5:05pm (AEDT) for live scores of the match.

This game is a perfect example of how COVID-19 has disrupted the A-League season to date. Originally scheduled to be played in early January, Melbourne and Brisbane will finally get to face off the best part of a month later.

That past month has treated tonight’s hosts well. With three wins on the bounce to their name, the Roar sat in second place coming into the weekend, and a fourth will see them nudge ahead of the Mariners at the top of the ladder.

Melbourne, meanwhile, find themselves in a rut. They’ve only notched a single victory so far from their four games, and are behind everyone on the ladder with the exception of the lacklustre Newcastle Jets.

Having only played the four matches though, there’s ample time to turn their year around, but the Victory will need to start sooner rather than later. An upset win on the road over the Roar would be the perfect tonic for their early-season woes.

Hingert was injured JB, hence Trewin in. Both Trewin and Courtney-Perkins played central defenders in that successful NYL team a couple of years ago, several other of the young players at the club were in that team. He’s had a couple of A League appearances, think it’s been out wide but may be wrong. But yes, score aside, nothing to get carried away about just yet. I’ll stay calm until we have two titles JB. What I do take pleasure at is the recruitment and development of youngsters. Until recently we would pick up our young players the AIS, QIS, or other clubs, often interstate. But now they nearly all are coming through the Roar academy, and it’s still in its early days. I’m feeling comfortable about the club’s long term future.

Lionheart- Careful my friend ,a couple of things could be taken out of that game, No 1 being, that is probably the worst Victory seen in the A-League. No 2 was the disturbing way that Roar allowed them back into the game and it is in this area you should be looking for improvement. The team selection again proved to be "mysterious" with the "new" defensive midfielder, Dalley once again "playing off the bench" when in the last 3 matches he has been outstanding when introduced. The lad who replaced Hingert we've seen before and I am certain it was as a back four player but his positional play as an attacking wingback fell way short of giving the "balance" that has been evident in the team in recent games. It is not over exaggeration to say this game could have finished 10-2 and yet at one time, when that stupid foul was given away on the edge of the box it did look as if Roar had gone off the boil. As you say there are still improvements to be made but this wholesale changing of starting teams is strange to say the least, a bit like "let's try this and see if it works". Cheers jb.

Well that was fun. Shout out to the Victory away fans who turned up singing. They walked to the stadium waving their banners and singing their songs. They didn't have much to sing about after that, but when they scored, we heard them. Well done you guys, on a tough night out, you added to the spectacle. Just too good. What was that tip again - struggle to make the finals? Still a lot of improvement left in the tank, players still to get a game (Merbrahtu and Masato Kudo strikers ). Season's only just started.

“The greatest concern was their defensive immobility, when it looked as though a set of Easter Island statues might have had more movement. ” - Sydney Morning Herald, describing Melbourne Victory.

They should have been left behind in Qatar. They did much better in the champions league than they are doing right now.
