The Matildas will look to make it two wins on the bounce as they once again lock horns with Brazil at CommBank Stadium on Tuesday night. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 8:05pm (AEDT).

With several factors at play, Saturday night’s 3-1 victory was much needed.

It was a required response after a disappointing loss to Ireland last month, a maiden victory for Tony Gustavsson on Australian shores, the best possible way to celebrate Alanna Kennedy’s 100th appearance, and a comprehensive win over a great rival.

The atmosphere was electric with the team playing in front of home fans for the first time since March 2020.

Goals to Clare Polkinghorne, Mary Fowler and Emily van Egmond for Australia and Adriana for Brazil ensured that the 15,270-strong crowd went home entertained.

In the journey of a thousand miles to the Women’s World Cup in 2023, this two-game friendly series represents only two single steps.

But the Matildas will look to use it as the beginning of some momentum heading into the Women’s Asian Cup in January 2022 – a key stop on that longer journey.

Brazil, meanwhile, will be disappointed they could not cause the Australians more trouble as their winless streak against the Matildas extended to six.

Marta and Debinha played only cameo roles and look to be pivotal in Tuesday night’s encounter.

As for Gustavsson and the Matildas, the Swede has plenty of defensive players and can tinker with the personnel deployed in those roles.

The likes of Angie Beard, Emma Checker, Karly Roestbakken, Courtney Nevin, and Jamilla Rankin will be hoping to work their way into the equation.

Saturday night’s match was a nominal friendly but had all of the usual goals, drama, and physicality of a game between the Matildas and Brazil.

Tuesday night’s encounter should offer up much of the same.

I don't normally take to the Ladies game, however I did watch the game last night. Box to box play, a few long balls and fast breaks.....took me back a few decades. Not the type of play hailed by the purists on these pages as being the way the game needs to be played, hold that thought. Enjoyed the game.

Thanks for joining me once again. Hopefully we'll have some more friendlies come November and of course we have the Asian Cup to look forward to in January. Lots to take out of these friendlies as we continue to prepare for that home World Cup.

Tara Rushton has just said it on the broadcast and it's worth paraphrasing. This is the first time the Matildas have played on home soil since March 2020. But it's also the first time they've played on home soil since we were awarded the 2023 World Cup with Brazil. The atmosphere has been phenomenal and it's only going to be bigger in 2023. What a taster for what's to come both in the stands and on the field!

Thst was a onderful game to watch - and a fair result. I have thoroughly enjoyed these two games. We need to bring more Brazilians to the A Leagues. They are brilliant footballers and their supporters add so much to the game. Thanks for the commentary, Marissa.

They'll be kicking themselves that they didn't get at least one of their chances in the first half into the back of the net.

FT Australia 2 Brazil 2. What a game. What a series. What a rivalry. Clare Polkinghorne and Sam Kerr score the goals for the Matildas. Erika and Debinha are on the scoresheet for Brazil. It was an enthralling contest. You'd think this game was actually for points or progression to the next stage of a major tournament.

A dangerous ball in but the Brazilians clear it. Leticia is once again in the wars this time copping it unintentionally from her own team mate.

85' We know Ellie Carpenter can go forward but her being the central player in the attacking box on that play is a bit much! Set piece opportunity coming up for the Matildas
