Home at last, Wellington Phoenix will be looking to celebrate their return to New Zealand with a win over Western United on Saturday afternoon. Keep an eye on all the action with live scores on The Roar from 2:05pm (AEDT).
While their last three results have been draws, the Phoenix have taken points away in their last seven matches, sparking an unlikely charge to the finals.
Escaping an away clash with Melbourne City with a 2-2 draw thanks to a late Tomer Hemed strike – and controversial celebration – might as well have been a win given City’s season to date. With home fans able to cheer on their side for the first time all season, the Nix’s form will have the teams above them on the table looking nervously over their shoulder.
Sitting level with them on points is Western United, though they are heading in the opposite direction. Four straight losses have Mark Rudan’s men fast slipping out of finals contention. Another loss here, or even a draw, would just about put a late resurgence beyond them.
Kick-off time: 2:05pm (AEST)
Venue: Wellington Regional Stadium
TV: Fox Sports 5
Live stream: Kayo Sports, Foxtel Now, Foxtel Go, MyFootball Live app
Betting: Phoenix $1.90, Western United $3.60, draw $3.60 (odds via PlayUp)

Unfair? They’re a foreign team that are there indirectly because FFA were blackmailed about letting an NZ based franchise join the A League. NZ doesn’t have a pro comp, so are thus fully reliant on Australia, and the Phoenix take more cash out than they generate. I don’t mind the Phoenix, and genuinely wish them all the best, but please stop saying it’s “unfair”, when NZF do nothing to help the A League or the FFA.

This is the club that was told "You cant squat on a licence" Were made to fulfil unfair metrics just to get a max 4 year year licence extension with a +3years if metric meet then another 3+ years if those metrics were met again basically a BS 10 year licence deal. People wanted them out and alot of critics at the time said they bring nothing to the league. How things have change and if Covid hadn't hit i believe we would have been a top 4 side. Every game was a away game not to disrespect Wollongong but its just not Wellington.

Great win Nix, keeps the finals hopes alive. I don’t think too many teams would be keen to play them if they make it.
