Heeney extends Swans contract until 2022

By News / Wire

Sydney midfielder Isaac Heeney will remain with the Swans until at least the end of the 2022 season after extending his current deal for another five years.

The 20-year-old from Newcastle has been a mainstay at the AFL club since his 2015 debut in which he kicked the match-sealing goal against Essendon

He won the club’s Rising Star award that year and played in 14 games before adding another 24 to his log in 2016.

Heeney claimed the AFL Coaches Association’s Best Young Player of the Year Award that year.

Swans head of football Tom Harley was delighted Heeney had signed-on with the club long-term.

“We’re rapt that Isaac has agreed to terms on a new five-year contract extension and has committed to the club for the long-term,” Harley said.

“Isaac is clearly a talented player who has played some high-quality football so early in his career.”

Heeney joins a host of teammates to commit to the club in 2016, with new skipper Josh Kennedy as well as Kieren Jack, Nick Smith, Luke Parker and Gary Rohan amongst others.

Your welcome mate, now here is some advice from your old mate bigJ. Now we got this nick picking nutball called the Barry over are the nrl page and just like you he loves to make a mountain out of a molehill and try to get his point across. Now you don't need to be like that and just one comment to make your point would dont let your emotions get In the way. Remember emotions are always the enemy of true justice. Thats your lesson for today

Also the longer deals can get back-ended a bit too, allowing for likely increases to the salary cap down the track.

I'm sure they have. Sydney aren't the only club with superstars on big money. They will retain some players for less than the open market rate anyway because it's Sydney. Players will take less to play at a good club.

true but what about others you would hope they have kept money for the others they are hoping to keep or they could see a few going over the next 3 to 4 years due to the large deals and money that is unavailable cause of Buddy, Tippets and now Heeney deals.

Big result for Sydney, But they had to get this done. Once they let Mitchell go, they needed to ensure they resigned Heeney. If they had of lost him it would of been a huge loss.

And Heeney is more value to us than Mitchell. Well done Isaac sticking by the team you have grown up barracking for.

Swans lost Mitchell so that would have cleared some space

very true and he is originally form NSW and still young and out of contract at 26 next so could well still be in his prime at that time and you would hope that there Cap would have some room then if he chooses to stay again at that point

Yeah, but it meant he gets to stay at Sydney - instead of having to go play for North. Some things money can't buy.

I wonder how much the deal was as it would have been a lot less then what North offered due to Swans Cap problems. But good on him for staying with the club.

Great news for the Swans! He's a sensational young talent. Looking forward to potentially seeing him live next year. A trip to Sydney might be in order.
