Roar LIVE: We want to know your favourite, worst and funniest sports moments of 2016

By Riordan Lee / Editor

It’s the silly season, so we’ve got two of The Roar’s funniest, Ben Pobjie and Dane Eldridge, to wrap up the bonkers year that was 2016 in this week’s episode of Roar LIVE.

We’d love to hear what this year’s been like for Roarers and have some banter about your answers live on the show.

Covering the entire sporting world, we’ll be talking about the biggest winners and losers of 2016, the ‘floggiest act’ seen on a sporting field during the year, as well as coming up with our favourite moments from the past 12 months and making needlessly bold and outrageous predictions for 2017.

If you’ve got any thoughts on those topics, chuck them in the comments and we’ll get to them at 5:30pm (AEDT) on our Facebook Page.

Last week we had Jason ‘Dizzy’ Gillespie on the show which was an absolute blast – head over here to check out all the best bits, including some ripping tales about that 200, Gilly being a national treasure, and coaching in the Big Bash League.

Roar Live will be streamed today on The Roar’s Facebook page and also on the site at 5:30pm (check the homepage). It will also be available as a podcast on Soundcloud and iTunes.

So what are you waiting for? Get your questions in below!

I'm late to this, but I'll give my input. The AFL live package that you can get on the AFL website/app is a vastly better proposition. I've got it on my phone and my iPad, and I can get live coverage of EVERY game and replays of every game back until 2012. If they can get it onto Apple TV it would be even better. Anyways, have a good Christmas/New Year, Paul. I'm actually heading up Brisbane/Gold Coast way this afternoon for a week. Doubt I'll have much internet access though, depending on where exactly I'll be. So thanks for good discussions this year, have a great one!

I agree it is hilarious. The level of delusion amongst union zealots knows no bounds...

How is the collapse of an entire league funny? All those players, coaches and officials out of work, haha.

A great moment. I was impressed when they gathered after the game and sang their song/hymn/whatever it was. Not only good at rugby, but a harmonious choir.

Hard to disagree with any of those. For non rugby people Bolt would have to be number 1 but the Fiji thing is fantastic. From a personal point of view watching the Aussie girls 7's win the gold medal with my 7 and 10 year old daughters was something special. Merry Xmas.

Last Saturday the ref in a Europe cup game took a great pass. That was pretty funny.

many bests in 2016 1. FIJI winning their first Olympic medal of any color , that in Rugby 7S makes it very relevant to this site :) 2. Bolt's triple triple - nine gold medals in which he swept the 100m, 200m and 4×100-meter sprint relay events in three successive Olympic Games. 3. Aside from the medal count Michael Phelps is now also the only swimmer to have won the same event, the 200m medley, in four consecutive Olympic Games. 4. Leicester City win the Premier League Title after starting the season at 5,000 – 1 odds , making one believer a millionaire :) 5. The Cavaliers rally from 3-1 down to win NBA Finals Funny ? Silly moments 1. Lionel Messi retiring after missing a penalty in Copa America and then un-retiring 2. Connor McGregor retiring from UFC only to un-retire and become a dual-weight champion 3. Johan Goosen retiring at 24 to be a corporate director - and awaiting the next step :) 4. the Olympic diving pool turning green !!! 5. Iceland beating England in Euro quarterfinals, a real ROTFL moment 6. Michael Phelps in a hoodie, staring straight ahead with a giant scowl on his face as his South African rival Chad Le Clos shadow-boxed to get pumped up for their upcoming 200-meter butterfly semifinal. :) 7. Ryan Lochte fabricates robbery story in Rio - DUH SAD 1. Chapecoense plane crash tragedy - which shud have been avoided 2. The Mamba (Kobe Bryant), Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen retire ..... 3. Arnold Palmer dies at 87 4. Muhammad Ali dies at 74

No no, I'm laughing at foxtel because I think their sports package is a god-awful ripoff, and I'm glad to see their business model getting slammed. I cancelled it 2 years ago.

jeznez, I tend to think rugby will be just fine in the long run, it occupies a unique space as the 'original' full contact football. Smarter than league, tougher than soccer and more strategic than AFL. The ARU has a lot of work to do however, if they want to regain the top spot in Aussie. It all starts with the kids, every dollar spent on the top should have 5 spent at the bottom, and spread across the country. Have some faith in the game, stop trying to appeal to league or AFL fans, appeal to rugby fans. Rejoice in scrumming, rucking, mauling, don't act like they are just pauses between the running game. They're our point of difference. I wish the term 'the running game' had never been invented, it just doesn't apply to rugby, at least not as much as it does to league or (far more so) AFL. Rugby is not a running game. It's a possession and territory game. I suspect this mentality may be behind much of Aussie's woes in the last 15 years.

There are certainly issues in that space, the evidence is overwhelming. Saw a newspaper article the other day ranking union 20th in the country for 3-13 year olds. The code has a lot of work to do. Piru, agree internationally the news is generally good - despite the setback announced today in the US. Will be interesting to see what happens in China over the next decade or so.

Worst moment this year was the A league fans trying to defend flare lighters and trouble makers from receiving punishment. Best moment is Leicester City winning the EPL and funniest is watching Libba tear it up while on a bender in Vietnam

You don't want to pay more to watch Liverpool's women's team play, or Chelsea's u17 team. What about live lawn bowls?

I'm not referring to the fans, but the governing body (who are clueless) and most of the media. Many of them refuse to admit there are problems within the game.

For me, the favourite moment had to be the Western Bulldogs winning the AFL premiership. Worst moment was the second half of the Brisbane Lions 2016 season. That was universally dreadful and it was embarrassing towards the end listening to that potato Leppitsch flail around trying to explain things away. The club was a total basket case before the AFL stepped in. Throw in the Suns and it’s been ten years and hundreds of millions of dollars to go backwards. Very bad result for the AFL in Queensland. Funniest - foxtel getting caned by everyone for losing sporting rights and jacking up prices.
