"I am not gay": James Faulkner clarifies Instagram post as CA issues apology

By The Roar / Editor

After a slew of articles were published this morning reporting he had come out as gay, former Australia all-rounder James Faulkner has stated that is not the case.

Faulkner posted a picture on Instagram last night of him with his mother and best mate Rob Jubb with the caption “Birthday dinner with the boyfriend (best mate!!!) @robjubbsta and my mother @roslyn_carol_faulkner ❤️❤️❤️ #togetherfor5years” which was roundly reported and interpreted this morning as him coming out as gay.

However, Faulkner has since denied that is the case, stating the ‘together for five years’ hashtag was a reference to him and Jubb having been housemates for five years and that he isn’t gay.

Faulkner’s recent post was published after it was reported a Cricket Australia spokesperson stated the original was a “joke”.

ABC Sport editor David Mark tweeted this morning that “A Cricket Australia spokesman said: ‘This is a joke that has been taken out of context.’”

Cricket Australia have since released a statement backtracking on that, insisting the matter was never a joke.

“Cricket Australia does not consider the social commentary this morning from James Faulkner to be a joke, nor does James,” the statement read.

“His comment was made as a genuine reflection of his relationship with his business partner, best friend and house mate of five years. He was not contacted for clarification before some outlets reported his Instagram post as an announcement of a homosexual relationship.

“James and CA are supportive of the LGBQTI community and recognises coming out can be an incredibly emotional time. The post was not in any way meant to make light of this and, though the support from the community was overwhelming and positive. Cricket Australia apologises for any unintended offence.”

yes.... so why did CA need to comment? They didn't or at the very least phone Faulkner and speak to him first. The absolute basics .

To be fair to Falou, he bashed everyone. Drinkers, fornicators and even liars were included in his list. 99.9% of the worlds population and more than likely himself are going to hell according to that little rant. You know what, maybe we’re already there.

I don't know why people would be surprised by that; most people really couldn't care if someone is gay or not. The whole "persecution" complex put forward by the activists is just not true in this day and age. Yeah there's still a few morons out there, but by and large society isn't the gay hating mob it used to be. The activists would have you believe that we are still in the 1970's because it helps to push their agenda.

“Birthday dinner with the boyfriend (best mate!!!) @robjubbsta and my mother @roslyn_carol_faulkner ❤️❤️❤️ #togetherfor5years” Depends how you read it, I 'spose, you could interpret it that his best mate robjubbsta and his mum have been an item for 5 years! Punctuation is important hey!

Now I want to know something else I didn't previously want to know. What line of business are Jimbo and Jubbsta in?

Celebrities, particularly minor ones, need to do it to maintain their public profile and stay within the public consciousness to increase their attractiveness to sponsors and future employers.

It shouldn’t be but it comes down to common use of the word. I’d bet my house that there would be a material differnece in interpretation if we did a test of me walking in and introducing my best mate (probably the aussie male equivalent of girlfriend) as “oh this is one of my boyfriend [insert name here]” or if my wife “did it with a similar this is my girlfriedn [insedert name here]”

I can understand an apology of sorts. If you said something to a mate that he took completely the wrong way, and you realised it was probably because of how you said it, wouldn’t you then say “sorry mate I meant XYZ not ABC hope we’re okay as I know the ABC thing would be a bit off” and for most people then all would be fine in the world. But past clarifying that he didn’t mean that, and he didn’t realise it sounded like he meant that, then it’s over move on.

I refer to my regarding Alan Joyce. They can say what they want, we don’t have to listen or take it on board. We have become to sensitive and shout people down for having a differing opinion. As gay people we were happy for people to speak up in support of marriage... we can’t now tell certain people to be quiet because it’s not our message.

Sir, you have hit the nail on the head. The whole episode is a case of miscommunication. Move on, far more important things to discuss than 'another day, let's get outraged about something today.' Someone needs to write a piece on 'Outrage fatigue' and becoming tired of people getting in the media with faux outrage about something that has no concern to them just to get that warm feeling of stirring up trouble. Back in the day these persons were termed muckrakers.

Why is there this modern-day propensity to photograph yourself and your company and post it online? Hey everyone I'm scratching my behind! Look, look! Like, like! I just don't get it.

Ronan , I have always made it clear that the feeding frenzy over the sandpaper stuff was primarily fueled by the Aussie media. In fact Faf du Plessis said it was out of control. These guys copped it because of it.
