Folau knocks back RA's $1 million settlement offer: reports

By The Roar / Editor

Israel Folau has reportedly knocked back a $1 million settlement offer from Rugby Australia, choosing instead to continue his fight against their decision to terminate his contract.

It was reported earlier today by The Daily Telegraph that Rugby Australia had offered Folau a $1 million payment which would quietly resolve his contract dispute.

However, Folau instead will be continuing into the second day of a code of conduct hearing on Sunday, which will deliver a final decision on his future.

That said, if the panel decides against Folau, he may seek to take the issue through further legal channels.

Even if Folau can force Rugby Australia not to terminate his contract, it seems unlikely he’ll play for the Waratahs or Wallabies again, but he may be able to seek a larger amount of compensation.

Folau as well as Ralene Castle and Michael Cheika were present at the hearing yesterday to give evidence, and will be present again today.

The hearing is expected to conclude today, but the final panel is not expected to deliver its final decision until later on.

Qantas will support a legal battle protecting an organization that they have invested money in. It is the fundamental function of the corporate institution.

The congregation will support a legal battle protecting someone voicing their teachings. It is the fundamental function of a religious institution.

There is no way his church is bankrolling IF's legal costs. There would be a congregation revolt.

Can’t stand Spurs, but I approve of the sentiment. :-D We may have differing views on the whole saga, but George Gregan was right...there are no winners in this one.

LOL Indeed, Mark. I would rather spend my time following the Spurs than this whole fiasco.

It would be cheaper to pay out Castle and keep Folau - at least he might help us win

Which is why they can't be punished on the basis of it. Never said it was ok for them to denigrate others.

I do work with lawyers on legal matters so i understand a little. But either way I generally refrain from commenting on the merit of specific advice when I don't know what it is, nor what the documents they have considered say.

I would not deny that, but neither do you. Doesn't take away my point it's still lousy legal advice. Tell all of us how this was good legal advice?

Believe it or not, I am not trying to bait you. I am seeking middle ground, or better still, the same moral high ground. I have been very careful in my choice of words so as not to burden Christianity with Folau's words. In fact I have actively been trying to separate them from both race and religion. Pointing out that it isn't indicative of Pacific Islanders nor Christianity in general. These groups have been dragged in by the media and Folau himself in his attempt to justify his comments. I have no beef with his, and your, right to religious belief, or lack of, and expression thereof. That said, you had better believe that the second the expression of those beliefs impose or affect others, you are going to hear from me. Especially if you are a high profile sporting personality. I am thrilled that you have found joy and hope, and from what you have described, your Jesus is a righteous dude, a very different one to that the Evangelical Pentecostal Church of Christ describes in their doctrine. I am hoping to convince you to distance yourself from the off-brand version of alleged Christianity that Folau follows and promote your own, tolerant, peace loving version.
