By The Roar / Editor

Former AFL player, coach and Fox Sports commentator Danny Frawley has died aged 56.

Frawley’s car was involved in an accident in Millbrook, near Geelong, this afternoon.

A Victoria Police statement said “Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in Millbrook this afternoon. It’s believed the vehicle left the road and struck a tree at the intersection of Old Melbourne and Sullivans Road just after 1.30pm.”

“The yet to be formally identified driver and only occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.”

“The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined at this stage.” The statement concluded.

Frawley was a former captain of St Kilda and enjoyed an incredible career between 1984 and 1995.

Once he retired from playing, Frawley was the senior coach of Richmond between 2000 and 2004, before heading to Hawthorn and St Kilda.

Frawley also co-hosted Bounce on Fox Footy.

I am so saddened. I am a man of comparable age who has struggled with depression. I never met Danny Frawley but I found him an engaging and interesting commentator and loved his work on News Radio. If you are not travelling well please speak to someone.

WOW...what sad news. I remember spud during his St Kilda days - great fullback and always was a thorn in the side of our SA State team. A real character and most of all a fantastic footballer

Absolutely terrible news, footy will take a backseat this week. I didn't know him personally but I feel like I've lost someone I know.

Just awful Was willing to clown around to let others have fun, but he was a proper football champion, and a leader around health and depression. Saints, Tigers, all footy fans, we should stand together in sadness at this awful loss. RIP, Spud

Oh, wowee. This is very distressing news. I'll admit I don't know a huge amount of his playing and coaching days, but I watched him on Bounce, and whilst I was indifferent to the show itself, Frawley always seemed like such a genuine individual. Rest in peace.
