Alex Rance says he’s content with the life balance he’s found since retiring from AFL football but has left the door open for a potential return.
Retired Richmond defender Alex Rance hasn’t ruled out a return to AFL football.
The five-time All-Australian announced his immediate retirement in December to focus on family and faith.
Rance, who is still on Richmond’s list, said he was happy with his decision but left the door open for a potential return.
“I love the game and I love what I’ve contributed and I am not going to completely rule out the fact I could come back,” Rance told RRR radio on Monday.
“But at this stage I am really happy with the life balance I have and I don’t regret any of my time spent at Richmond because it made me who I am and I’m proud of the effort that I put in there to achieve what we did.
“So it’s a constant thing that, it’s almost like – and this is a bad analogy but I’m going to use it anyway – being an alcoholic and constantly working in Dan Murphy’s.
“I know that if I go back to playing for Richmond, I’m going to love it so much that it’s going to consume my life and my balance is going to go out again so I’m happy where I am at.”
Rance said he’d had to adjust to life without seeing his teammates and coaches every day but relished the balance he’d found since retirement.
“I feel like I do have a lot more clarity now, I’ve got lot more time,” he said.
“Because football, to be great at it, it’s very selfish and you need to be very consumed in it and it needs to take over your life because it’s so competitive and every kid wants to do it
“So now that I have the time to reflect and spend on other areas of my life like my family, my faith and fitness and other things like that, it’s given me a bigger opportunity to balance that all out.”

So the news release of when his wife left him is the official time his wife left him? It doesn't make more sense that his wife left him and then he quit footy in response to that? News got wind of the breakup afterwards.

RT, I don't really care either way. I was actually just curious as I like to know things and I particularly dislike propaganda passed of as truth. I am not pushing anything and only wanted the truth of the matter. This is not a shot across the bows of RFC. I was going to ignore your question but I didn't want to be rude. Either the truth is he quit for family and his wife left just after or something else happened which I will never know about. But if he quits for family and breaks with his family, it doesn't follow to me. I do feel sorry for the guy in either case.

Are you a Richmond fan? Your attack on Yatuzzi seems very disproportionate. So what if he's curious, people love gossip, what he's asking isn't unusual or disparaging so he has every right to ask it.
