Crusaders sorry for NZ lockdown breach

By News / Wire

The Super Rugby champion Crusaders have been forced to apologise after several members of their squad were spied flouting New Zealand’s isolation rules.

All Blacks five-eighth Richie Mo’unga was the only player identified among a group passing and kicking a ball to each other at a Christchurch park on Monday.

Photographs of the players emerged on social media and the Crusaders confirmed they had breached their own rules around individual training during the coronavirus lockdown.

Under the country’s strict controls, households have to stay within their own “bubble” and maintain social distancing from others.

Crusaders chief executive Colin Mansbridge said he had reprimanded the players involved, who reside in three different bubbles.

“They shouldn’t have been at the same location,” Mansbridge told Newshub.

“It wasn’t planned and they should know better. I have spoken to those involved, and will reinforce that again tonight.”

Well, I’m just outraged that NewZealanders have done anything wrong at anytime. You guys have let NZ down big time and I think you should be deported ( imported) to Australia.

Ah yes, of course: if someone else does the wrong thing, then you're justified in doing it too! Funnily enough, David Clark has lost his associate finance minister portfolio because of this, and will likely lose his health portfolio once the pandemic ends (the PM stated that she would've sacked him under normal circumstances). So the goose is in the oven, and almost cooked.

Perhaps we all ought to stop and follow Bobby's advice: "It's all a bit OTT everyone, stand down. Let's just see how this pandemic, for which we don't have a vaccine, plays out."

It's not about being silly. Understand the social distancing measures. But to be fair, to get real serious, they need to separate ALL people, irrespective of families, partners, etc etc. That'll really stop this thing. Suppose there are other consequences.

Bit over the top (for me) at this stage.

No, don't be silly. Given the current pandemic and just how infectious this disease is, someone should have had the intelligence to think that nothing short of full compliance with social distancing directives was needed.

You've got to question the intelligence of these guys; it's impossible to not know what's expected during the Level 4 restrictions in NZ. Either they've decided that they're exempt, or they just have an absolute void between their ears - and some of them are parents/parents-to-be???

I don't think the Tooth Fairy ever lands. She, I assume it's a she) has little wings and a wand. I've seen her.
