Broncos, bow your heads in shame

By Anton Taylor / Roar Guru

If I told you that current Broncos coach Anthony Seibold coached the Rabbitohs in 2018 and won Dally M coach of the year would you believe me?

No? Well he did.

He is now coaching a side that got belted 58-0 in the finals series by the Eels and now in Round 4 have been belted 59-0 by the reigning premiers the Sydney Roosters, with Josh and Brett Morris showing why they’re still up there with the best of the best.

The Broncos have suffered a record-breaking loss to a Roosters side who were missing James Tedesco because of a very high temperature.

I’m sure that Seibold’s temperature is through the roof.

The game stats were all in the Roosters favour: possession, completion, metres, line breaks and tackle breaks.

Broncos fans, you might want to look away if you haven’t already, because you made 11 errors, eight penalties conceded, 47 missed tackles and Jesse Arthars sent to the sin bin at the 56th minute.

In a club-record loss, the only positive is that Payne Haas still gave it all with 15 runs for 103 metres, broke six tackles and made 0 errors.

The Morris brothers showed their combination with each other are still very good with brother Brett setting up Josh.

Brett ended up scoring one try, setting up two tries, 144 running metres, three tackle breaks and made one error with brother Josh scoring one try, one try assist and having 132 running metres for six tackle breaks, one line break and making one error.

The halves were very good with Luke Keary scoring a try and setting up two others.

Playing his fourth game for the Roosters, Kyle Flanagan scored his second try for the Roosters and setup one more.

Lindsay Collins coming off the bench was superb. He scored a try and ran for 272 metres along with nine tackle breaks, one line break and made zero errors.

Anthony Milford looked like he forgot how to kick the ball, Darius Boyd did not look like he wanted to be there and the Broncos had no gas in the tank because they kept knocking the ball on and giving away penalties.

This gave the Roosters the field position they need to score.

This is the Broncos’ worst loss in their 32-year history. Fans are demanding answers.

Would the Broncos be embarrassed like this again if Wayne Bennett was still in charge?

Would Anthony Seibold get South Sydney their 22nd premiership if he would’ve stayed?

Broncos, bow your heads in shame.

You've missed the most glaring issue of all... the interference of Isaac Moses. Like Smith out of the Matrix, his power base has grown beyond all control. Tallis points out their recruitment manager is an ex-glassie, meaning he's got no experience at all. Moses controls recruitment, he demands transfers, he dictates team makeup and he does it all having more than half the Broncos roster under his control. He selects based on money not spines or whatever and it shows in a multi million dollar roster that gets pantsed by 50. What he did to Bateman who was a cult hero in Canberra until he was derailed by the gold plated promises should concern everyone. Siebold is just the sacrificial lamb and until they find a way to stifle player managers with too much power it'll all implode.

The Broncos got what they deserve if you are going to line up a team like that against the rooster, I think the coach is also to blame for it get rid of him put him on notice

He’s virtually the only front rower in the comp to do 80 minutes. He’s exhausted because the coach isn’t game to freshen him up.

A bit harsh on young Haas ! He was actually given 17 minutes rest this week, but in the 63 minutes on the park in a team with 39 % possession , he did 53 tackles, 13 hit ups, 4 line breaks , & 6 offloads, and was covering the park like a cover defender for others most of the time. Wish he was in my team !

I'm sorry Matth but I saw a man on three separate occasions beaten and not even worried to turn and chase. queensland cup might readjust his mentality. They may be young but they've talked a great game for years. Start playing it.

I think the Broncos are paying the price for relying so heavily on junior development. Whilst developing players is essential you need to mix that with recruitment when the talent becomes available to keep a necessary mix of experience and youth. Clubs like the Roosters,Raiders, Manly, Eels and storm have been excellent in this area in recent years and are reaping the benefits. Manly The had the trabojavic brothers and have added Taupa, Joel Thompson, and a few others and now look like contenders. The raiders brought some Englishmen and are now favourites to win the comp. The roosters replaced Ferguson and Mitchel with the Morris Twins. Even the Knights who always complained about other clubs have finally started recruiting well and our now competitiors for the title.

I have to agree, that looked as intentional as you can get. Milford let go once he knew the damage had been done.....cricket's???

Milford got a hold of Radley's arm and pulled it around his back while getting up. It was pretty poor to be honest.

Haas was virtually the only one to have a dig. Still ran for over 100 metres, made no errors and busted six tackles. the problem is he is only 20 and playing in the front row and yet is expected to last the full 80 and lead this side's forwards every week. He's in danger of burning out by the end of this year.

Just Wondering, what did Milford do? He was tackled & getting up to play the ball, Radley was the tackler was he not?

Does anyone else think that Radley injury incident didn't smell as bad as it looked? I'm not saying it was deliberate but don't forget these guys wrestle five times a week and know exactly where everything is in a tackle. It's gotta be reckless or careless, and it caused injury, so what's the difference between that and a high tackle? He was angry as hell about it too, you could tell. He'll be gone for the year most likely and I don't hear one person asking for the incident to be looked at.

The issue I think the Broncos have to sort out is leadership. Who in this team is the strong leader? In the past there have been guys like Lockyear, Lewis, etc, who could lift the guys with their words and their actions. I'm sure Brodie Croft, for example, can lift the team through his on-field example, but a young side like this is begging for a strong man like Cam Smith to really take charge. Forget Milford or Boyd, they need someone to take charge and really lay down the law. I've no idea who can take on this role in Brisbane? Maybe Matt Lodge, even though he's injured? They need a leader badly and right now, the lack is really killing them.

Gee I wonder if they got paid for wins and nothing for losses would this bunch put up more effort? The great hope haas failed to deliver and looked more like an apprentice hairdressers mistake. If I'm playing beside him and some of the other overpaid brats, I would be not so kind with my words. These lads showed absolutely no interest or pride and that's a shame that they are able to get to where they have. I'm sure that there are kids playing in a lower comp that will play better than these lot. As far as using the line that they are just kids, I come back with Good enough, old enough. They aren't good enough and investment should be looked at elsewhere

I wonder how much of an effect not having Alan Langer on the field has had. Milford in particular looks like he doesn't know what to do.

Youth and the roster can be an excuse but it isn't , because the problem last night was attitude plain & simple. They were even on their home ground and did not have to travel. Under prepared, disorganised and did not have a clue.......and only a couple had a real dig. We talk about Seibold & the Bunnies but he had the groundwork done for him but now we have a situation where he has to do the hard yards and seems to be failing at every hurdle. Even as a Roosters supporter I do not like seeing my team win like that and you can bet despite being proud of their professional attitude in getting the job done Robinson will be worried about the complacency factor setting in as it was just too easy. Even Brett Morris after the game admitted that they were expecting a much tougher game and despite the smile you could tell he felt a tad hollow that they did not get that tough game they were expecting. Lets hope that the young Bulldogs give a decent account for themselves next week for the Roosters have the Eels the following week

After all they are the NRMA Insurance Broncos. How appropriate! They regularly suffer "total losses".

And Lindsay Collins and Wictor Wadley are more proof of what a great eye for talent Wobbo has . Then you look at the way he’s got young Flano and the Morris boys going , and anyone who thought the Roosters would fade this year are kidding themselves.

I actually see the Rabbits having a terrible year also , I don’t think they will threaten at all to be honest. Bottom eight for sure .
