VOTE: DIY Wallabies Tri Nations player ratings vs Argentina

By The Roar / Editor

For the second time this year, the Wallabies have finished a Test match all square with their opponents, this time playing out a 15-all draw with Argentina.

While there were some strong performances from the men in gold, it was a case of many missed opportunities for the home side, who dominated possession and territory without managing to open up a winning lead.

As always, we want you to tell us how you think each of the Australians – except for Noah Lolesio, who didn’t get on the field – rated in the match.

It was largely the same side that got the job done in Brisbane, albeit with three changes to the run-on team and two more to the bench. So did Taniela Tupou justify his promotion to the starting side? How about Scott Sio and Ned Hanigan?

Reece Hodge scored all of Australia’s points in his third ever start for the national team at flyhalf, but how did you evaluate his all-round performance?

Let us know the answer to those questions and more in the form below. And if you need a refresher on the ratings, we’ve got you covered:

1. Had he not played, the team would have been better off. Negatively affected the performance of the side. May God have mercy on his soul.
2. Anonymous. Was he even there?
3. Did some things that you expect a player to be able to do, but did a whole bunch of other things that sucked.
4. Was passable in patches, but not up to standard in a squad of such depth.
5. Performed his role without anything really noticeable happening.
6. Good.
7. Pretty good, actually.
8. Very good.
9. Excellent.
10. Might as well have been John Eales.

So have your say on how each of the Aussies performed in Newcastle, and we’ll tally up the results and publish them on Monday.

I’m usually no Simmons fan but I thought he was one of our best on the field and actually deserved his place on the team. Would give him a 7+. As for Hooper, being the captain and not going for points when on offer made him in my mind our worst on the paddock. 3-

Hooper is no Pocock. Wright is every bit capable and there is the opportunity to lure many of those others back. How good would it be to get Liam Gill back into the fold?

Was the case when Pocock and Gill were still around, or even Hodgson or Colby Faingaa. There really aren't other equally capable 7s in Australia anymore. Liam Wright is the closest and he is nowhere close yet, neither is McReight. Others like Hardwick and Miller do not even come into the discussion.

Such LASER like focus on poor sportsmanship isn't an Australian trait. Just because that's something you'd think of doesn't mean it was his intent. It was just the closest part of his body to respond to. Plus you're expecting far too much from a prop.

the editors of the video that our answer was Australians !! tell him to put the whole original sequence! Newton's 1st law every action force has another reaction force! If they paralyze Sanchez's leg they wanted to leave us without a kicker only to win unfairly! That's why Sanchez lost 1 penalty !!

I agree bigtree. All three of those were having very good games. I can believe Wilson and Philip were tiring and there could be a case for replacing them with fresh legs, but Tom Wright still seemed to be still jumping out of his skin.

Here I am half way through reading the comments on this thread and I have not yet seen anybody giving credit to the Pumas for a great defensive display (again). Yes the Wallabies looked like they could score a try at least 3 times in that first half but the Pumas defended extremely well.

not sure why they not using Rob Valetini more. He could be running at stand if or pick and drive near the line or near the 22. I reckon DR should consider starting him and see how he goes. He came on and played number 8 I saw in the scrums. I think he will develop into a good player. I like his defence and how he attacks the mauls as well.

I thought Daungunu was coming on for Korobeite, who was average. Tom Wright should have stayed on

Agreed.. he offered so much more than his replacement. His substitution made no sense

Those subs made no sense at all.. they weren’t replaced by finishers.. they finished our chances

True Oily. I have never been impressed with Banks- he was too flakey for me (whatever rhat means), until recently. Very good under high balls but his running ability is still not at Test level (for me). DHP looks done. Maybe time to seriously look at others

One of the kick returns Wright did was pure class. Had a wall of defenders and he kinder turned sideways and slotted through the gap. Got tackles but eliminated the certain dominant tackle making sure we could get back and secure the breakdown.

Immediately noticed Valabtini size on the field. He is a unit. He literally threw one of the Argies away from the breakdown.

I am very impressed with Tom Wright. He seems like a natural Test player who makes good decisions. He was my best back follower by Banks who has been impressing me. Banks D has been strong and very dominant under the highball. He appears to be our most reliable 15. He was more involved in attack but I think he is suffering from the inexperienced centres. Our 12/13 combo seem very difficult to run off.
