Bulldogs tear up Lachlan Lewis' NRL contract

Canterbury have sacked Lachlan Lewis, tearing up the final month-and-a-half of his NRL contract after he allegedly placed a club speaker for sale online.

Lachlan Lewis’ case of the eBay speaker has cost him the final month-and-a-half of his Canterbury contract after he was sacked by the NRL club.

The Bulldogs confirmed on Tuesday night they had terminated Lewis’ contract immediately, before it was due to expire at the end of next month.

The decision leaves Lewis without a club for next season as well as missing out on approximately $55,000 still remaining on his contract.

The drama comes after Lewis allegedly placed a speaker provided to the Bulldogs’ in their hub by the NRL on eBay for sale.

“After issuing Lachlan a breach notice and following due process regarding his response, the club has decided to part ways with Lachlan, effective immediately,” Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton said.

“The club is committed to supporting Lachlan during this time and we wish him all the best for the future.”

The nephew of league great Wally Lewis, Lachlan debuted with the Bulldogs in 2018 and made an immediate mark at the club.

However, he fell out of favour in recent years, managing just 13 games in 2020 and six games this season.

The decision comes after the Bulldogs also axed repeat offender Adam Elliott last week for being kicked out of a restaurant for having a toilet tryst with NRLW player Millie Boyle.

This debacle has shown that Barrett doesn't seem much chance of turning the dogs into a top team. He came to the Dogs on the back of promises he was a big factor in unlocking the Panthers attack. Lewis has been one of our most dangerous players with big potential for the last few years, while Flanagan had big wraps too. Rather than develop either of these players, Barrett has bet on the future with Burton and left those two in ruins. Not a good sign that he can take a squad of new players and turn them into premiership contenders. Lewis clearly has issues in his life that the Bulldogs should have helped with and I sincerely hope another club will give him the chance to be the superstar he's teased us with at the Dogs.

Why don't you take your own advice, be a man and offer him a job yourself? You came up with this genius idea so it's only fitting a person who has these sorts of strange thoughts should get first crack at him.

I think that most people are just pointing out the confusing inconsistency of the penalties for different players. Plus ,why would he do that. I worked on a mine site ,FIFO we flew back in one week to find out a whole lot of locals were sacked because they were stealing meat packs on their last roster day. $100 pack cost them in excess of a $100,000 pa job. Why would they do that, dumb people on this planet. In my opinion players who break quarantine and other rules should have their contracts torn up, but they don't, they get mothered. My problem is Lewis got sacked. Inconsistent.

Offer him a job Paul, be a man and demonstrate the compassion you demand of others … and let the other applicants know that they must wait their turn because they are not as worthy as the dishonest contenders.

At least the dope's Wikipedia entry is up to date (for the moment). :stoked: "Outside of Rugby League, Lewis is also a Licensed Plumber and stereo salesman."

I understand Lachlan Lewis was raised by his grandparents. He is the son of Wally Lewis' brother, who I am told have not spoken to each other in years. Do not make assumptions that just because he is related to the "King", that he was born with a silver spoon. From my observations, the top Rugby Clubs do look after their players, which is what makes them successful.

A second chance for what? The season is over and his contract is weeks away from expiring - there literally isn’t a second chance for him to take advantage of. And in any case - No one expects a second chance for stealing from the workplace. Come on.

The second chance is not reporting it to the police.

well hopefully they also give him details of the support people. Well unless it's Canberra because using them is what gets you fired.

That was the excuse he trotted out but wasn't he caught trying to actually hand it off to the delivery guy? What's the gag "Haha you used to have something but I sold it!"

You'd be surprised sometimes the money makes you feel invincible when you're young. I've seen plenty young bucks throw away much more lucrative careers on very stupid things from insider trades that net them less than a grand to using the company card for a $500 bar tab with mates.

Oh? I gather from this that: * the lad is an orphan with no family to care for him - no relatives with exceptional connections to call on; * the modern rugby league club is also a child minding centre; and * Elliott, an adult on $9,000 per week, has no money to pay for professional help (if that is really necessary)?

I made the observation after the Castle debacle that I thought the dirty dogs would be looking up from the bottom of the ladder for the foreseeable future. This demonstrates exactly why I thought that.

I heard a rumour that it was supposed to be some kind of joke/gag. I'm not close enough to understand for sure but in any case, sad and silly end. One just shakes one's head..

The point you are trying to make doesn’t get off the tarmac because there was no super extraordinary factor that would have overridden the perfectly reasonable decision to sack an employee that had committed a criminal act against them. The decision to sack him was perfectly reasonable in the circumstances. It’s exactly what anyone would expect to happen. Any other outcome would be extraordinary.
