A Canterbury Bulldogs fan for many years- started when I lived in Sydney in that area and before that my brother went to Canterbury High School. Now live in the bush, but occasionally get to a game when the Bulldogs play the Raiders in Canberra. I do not like the new rules, as far as I am concerned the game was fast enough and I admire good defence as much as good attack. Can you please change my display name to Ceebee. (won't let me change it.)

It was interesting to hear the take on this by the 360 crew last night, none of whom supported Topine’s claim. General consensus was that this could become a problem for the NRL in general. Army style boot camp physical training is how all the top clubs operate, and if every player with a grudge decides to sue their club because it caused psychological problems, it could open a can of worms.

NRL News: 'Happens every day' - Anasta defends Dogs as $4M lawsuit looms over former player's training punishment

Not a NSW/Queensland thing at all – as a Bulldogs supporter – a team at the bottom of the ladder for a few years, I can assure that we mostly came off on the wrong end of the penalty count, and I am sure Tigers and Dragons supporters would say the same.
Titans are not getting the favourable calls because they are a struggling club. Fact of life in the NRL.

'F--- you': Insults fly after Des confronts Ricky as Annesley admits yet another blunder robbed Titans of victory

Don’t hate Gutho, but his constant questioning of the ref is irritating. As for six agains, I really do hate them, no scrutiny on the referee as to why the whistle is blown. Another thing I don’t particularly like are short kick-offs, as it is a similar contest to a kick to a fullback without the restrictions applied to that. The obsession with making the game faster seems to be resulting in a lot of injuries.

NRL Round 6 Talking Points: Concussion sub needs a fix, learning about 'disruption', why does everyone hate Gutho?

Didn’t expect to win, just hoped they would compete well. King, Preston, Mann and Morrin out of a forward pack that was already light on. What pleases me most is that I can see Ciraldo developing a system, where new players slot in and play their part, las happens with Penrith and Melbourne. Bailey Haywood did well last night as did other newbies. A way to go yet, but better times ahead for us long suffering Bulldog supporters.

Bulldogs grab moral victory, but Melbourne take the two points as Storm overcome Foxx hat trick in comeback win

Proud of the effort tonight, Hutchinson tries hard, but he is not a halfback. It baffles me why when they were so successful on the left, they kept going right when the game was on the line. I like Tracy at fullback, very safe under the high ball. I will await next week’s team selection with interest.

I could be wrong, but I do not remember so many injuries so early in the season. Every team seems to have been affected. Could it be because of the “faster, more entertaining game” that the NRL is tweaking the rules to achieve. I have said it before, players are mere humans not robots.

NRL Round 5 Talking Points: For a few clubs it’s getting late early, Jennings shouldn't be in league let alone celebrated

Agree, if anyone is to replace Taafe it should by Tracy. Not sure if the Fox is ready to return, so it may be the same team, in the backs anyway.

Round 4 Team Lists Late Mail: Key Raiders injury leads to Origin star return, Newcastle lose Gagai to 'medical condition'

Was very impressed with the “Special K’s”, Kikau and Kiraz, but it was a big improvement all round. I knew from watching the two previous games that their defence had improved a great deal, and they held their own in the first half of both games. Lack of possession against Parramatta, and some terrible decisions going against them at Cronulla, but the signs were there. Yesterday I saw signs of an improved attack, but a way to get yet. Some of the utilities that everyone bagged are coming up trumps, particularly Kurt Mann, and Connor Tracy. I tend to agree about Taffe at fullback, as my heart is in my mouth when he is under the high ball. Other facets of his game, though are good, he has speed and backs up well. Would he make a good halfback?

BREAKING: Scans confirm disaster for Tino, Titans as knee injury further sours Belmore horror show

The difference between the two teams was in my opinion Nicho Hynes, with his control of the game, particularly in the second half. The Dogs badly need a controlling half, it is frustrating to see their back line talent not being used to any effect. There are a couple of the utilities that can play half, and would be worth a shot, but Ciraldo seems to pick and stick with players, Perham was an example of this last year. When he finally changed to Averillo there was an obvious improvement.

The Roar's NRL expert tips and predictions, Round 1: Can Storm continue hot streak, will Dragons fire, more upsets to come?

A whole lot of conjecture. Why don’t we just wait and see?

Bulldogs' bark is worse than their bite: Defence needs mending as Ciraldo gambles with star recruit in make-or-break year

I agree with Nat’s summary – Johnson was in top form last year, so it is vital for the Warriors that he stays on the park and keeps up his good form. It is easy to stick to the same side, when your team is relatively injury free, but when injuries hit key players, a team can fall in a heap.

Cohesion v competition: Can Webster keep calm if things go wrong now he has Roger, Chanel and a strong squad?

Just a correction, the Dogs were slammed by injuries in the forwards from the start, with Thompson out before a game was played and Kikau a couple of weeks later. A further spare of injuries exacerbated the problem half -way through the season. Surely you are wrong about Taffe having to compete with Perham for the fullback position, who last year showed that he is not up to first grade. I would like to see Chrichton in the centres, where his attack and particularly defence is much needed. We were short of a big prop last year and this problem has not been fixed yet, despite many offers being made. Tough middles are as scarce as hen’s teeth, so all we can hope is that some of the current signings will shine. I am also curious as to where the utility signings will be used and as always expect Guston will continue to attract more headlines than Donald Trump.

Pressure Points: Gus is the centre of attention at the Dogs - and he'll be the fall guy if they fail in 2024

The Morris Brothers were shining lights at the Canterbury Club, and we have not had a pairing like them since as they excelled in both attack and defence. Our defence has been so un bulldog like, it must improve for any chance of success, and I am looking forward to seeing it improve with Chrichton’s arrival. I was very pleased when he was signed as I saw him from his early days in NRL as a potential champion because of his athleticism, and he has since matured in all facets of the game. A good signing.

NRL's marathon man: Has anyone in the game put in a bigger and better effort than this Critter over the past year?

As a Bulldogs supporter I hope Addo-Carr stays right where he is. I am looking forward to seeing him get more ball next season, with a much better back line.

“Simply the Best”, from the entertainment to a match that went down to the wire. One of the best Grand Finals I have seen, played at such high intensity and skill. Penrith were gone for all money until Cleary organised that brilliant comeback. As predicted, Luai’s injury became apparent, but Penrith had a solid replacement in Cogger – not sure why they are letting him go. Congratulations to Penrith and commiserations to the Broncos and I must say I disagree with the doomsayers about the Broncos’ chances next year. They are a young team and will only get better. Both teams will lose key players next but are so far ahead of the pack that I think they will cope with the losses.

Cleary's immortal display inspires Panthers to pull off record comeback win for three-peat and break Broncos hearts

The Daily Tele journos love a juicy headline for what often turns out to be nothing stories. Luai fits their agenda because there has to be a villain and Walsh is on notice. Vlandy didn’t do him or his coach any favours with his stupid Justin Bieber remarks. young footballers do not need their egos stoked, it doesn’t end well.

'Some people out there are quite jealous of Reece': Walters defends Walsh after fullback filmed lashing out at fan

Good to see Luai get through without doing any more damage to his shoulder – however, whichever team makes the grand final out of Broncos or Warriors the forward pack next week will make it much harder for him than the Storm did. Despite his toughness, there will be a weakness there just a few weeks after a serious injury. In saying that I wish him well as he is an import cog in the Penrith machine.

'Tell the doctor I’m built different': No fear for Luai as shoulder passes first test ahead of Grand Final

The clash of the forwards will be worth watching, also Johnson v Reynolds, but Brisbane will have the edge in the centres I think. Hope it is a close game, but could be another blowout.

With a rebel yell, fans cry Wahs, Wahs, Wahs: Fantastic year for true believers who kept the faith in NRL's surprise packets

For a halfback to shine their forward pack needs to hold its own and last night that was not the case, the Melbourne pack is not as dominant now and Penrith had the upper hand. Cleary keeps getting better, but the criticism on Munster a bit harsh I thought.

Munster missing in action: Melbourne’s marquee man made to look second rate as Cleary puts on purr-fect Panthers clinic

Are Broncos the only ones going into the prelims. with a fully fit spine, as the Warriors are nursing Johnson’s calf injury, same with Hughes and Luai. I agree that the role that Luai plays will be restricted if he is not fit and Cogger and Cleary are combining well in a different style, so it’s a roll of the dice for Penrith and the same for Melbourne who have to decide whether to play Hughes or stick with Wishart. The youngsters looking to a Rugby League future should be honing their skill as a halfback, because they will be like diamonds as will their asking price.

Semi-final Talking Points: Anxiety high for prelims, Warriors surging, Storm need Hughes for Panthers mission

It was the best game of the finals so far. Canberra dominated the first half, but when Newcastle bounced back and took the lead, I thought the Raiders would live up to their “Faders” title. Good on them for the fight they showed and I felt it was a shame the match was decided by a penalty, deserved or not. Congratulations to Newcastle on their victory and both teams for a very entertaining game.

NRL Finals Talking Points: Hard to send a player off for biting, Knights on a roll but Panthers vs Broncos GF looks inevitable

With some good backline signings for next year, Burton will get his chance to step up and he should spend the off season improving his defence. However, unless we sign more good defensive forwards (I am not talking about established stars), we will have problems next year. Our depth this year was too skinny and injuries hit hard, but this does not excuse their defence which is the worst I have seen from a Canterbury team.

Manly heap more misery on dreadful Bulldogs with DCE's class shining through a bleak 80 minutes

It was a very good game to watch and the Raiders were doing well to be still in it, until the sin binning which, changes the outcome every time. Rapana got away with a lot worse against the Dogs last week, and what annoys and frustrates me is that is so random. Some placed on report others given 10 in the bin. Brisbane were the stronger team last night and deserved to win, but let us hope when it comes to the finals they are not decided on the whim of a referee or the bunker.

ANALYSIS: Reece Lightning strikes Raiders, Kotoni elbows Rapana and chaos reigns in Canberra

The Warriors have proved that you don’t need a 5 year plan to have a successful year. A new coach a halfback playing brilliantly and a couple of good acquisitions with everyone in the team buying in, shows that any team can improve. The Warriors have exceeded expectations and even if they go down in the finals they can be pleased with their efforts. I see a long- term plan as setting up a good junior base, strength in key positions and identifying leaders. However, although the salary cap is the same for everyone, all teams do not start from an equal base.

Every NRL club should have a five-year plan but it’s best to keep quiet about the details - remember Parra's 2020 Vision?
