Fogarty linked with move to nation's capital

Gold Coast co-captain Jamal Fogarty has been linked with a move to Canberra despite extending his contract with the Titans in August.

The Raiders’ search for a No.7 to replace departed Englishman George Williams has centred on Fogarty, who has risen to a leadership position at the Titans after earning a second NRL chance last year.

The 27-year-old Fogarty trumpeted a contract extension in August, but on Wednesday multiple reports suggested the player and club would now entertain an immediate release.

Ashley Taylor, who wasn’t offered a new contract by Gold Coast, was initially floated to replace Williams while Warriors talent Chanel Harris-Tavita has also been linked to the Raiders.

Fogarty’s departure would open the door for 20-year-old playmaker Toby Sexton to own the No.7 on the Gold Coast in what could be an exciting but raw spine in 2022.

Queensland State of Origin representative AJ Brimson’s move from fullback to the No.6 has already been floated, a shift that would allow Jayden Campbell to remain at fullback after his bright finish to 2021.

Warriors recruit Paul Turner and versatile Tanah Boyd are other young backline and spine options for Titans coach Justin Holbrook next season.

If we get Fogarty it might be just what we need. His NRL 2021 stats make good reading - 13 try assists, 6th highest kick metres, 118 lines engaged (9th). Not quite up there with Cody Walker and Cleary who are off the charts but very respectable. If he can organise the attack it will let Jack run more but still chime in with those left side shifts. And Peachy would be a good addition as well. He has a bit of x factor. We badly need a ball playing 13 like Isiah Yeo from Penrith. Either Peachy or Elliot Whitehead could fill that role. Ricky is bringing back Mick Crawley as attack coach who had us firing back in 2016. Can't see Ricky going anywhere so lets hope these moves work. It was a shame to see Ryan James go to the Broncos - we could have used him more. Lets hope the young blokes who got more game time in the second half of the season can get us into the 8 next season.

Geoff, Fogarty & Peachey would be great additions for the Raiders. We just need a coach who can bring the best out of halves. Maybe Wayne Bennet could be an assistant next year. It's sad to see Havilli & James go. Anyway if we hang around long enough Ricky Stuart will be let go.

So the Raiders ( name suits the actions) are approaching contracted players ? Imagine the meltdown from Stuart if the Broncs or Melbourne spoke to Xavier Savage or Bailey Simonsson about walking out on their raiders contracts ?

Both of them would be swamped on the open market. I was disappointed not to see Toby play against Roosters. Made a difference???

Don't think we have heard the final word on this. If Fogarty wants to go to the Raiders I'm not sure he is going to hang around. And for the Titans why would you want to hang on to someone who doesn't want to be there? Would be a very solid buy. I've been impressed with him when I've watched him play this season. The Raiders have got a bit to spend with Curtis Scott, G Williams, Ryan James and Dunamis Lui all being released. I'd be tempted to pick up Peachey from the Titans as well at the right price.

Local footy journo Dobbo had the Titans CEO (or some board member) on a few weeks ago and he's said that Sexton will be their half next season. They've just resigned Fogerty until 2023. And yes, they'll be looking at moving Brimson into 5/8 to make way for Campbell. Initially I thought he was talking out of school, maybe there is something to this move. It does leave a very young spine.

I hate to break it to you Murray, but... it's Fake News I'm afraid. Titans douse Raiders' Fogarty interest Canberra's hunt for a new No.7 will continue after Titans officials told the Raiders that co-captain Jamal Fogarty would not be granted an early release to move to the nation's capital. https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/09/23/titans-douse-raiders-fogarty-interest-as-exits-free-up-no.7-cash/

Surely the Raiders should be targeting Corey Norman!

Just made the semi's, a solid foundation to build on and they let their starting half go? Sexton may have potential, but he hasn't done anything yet to show that he can lead a team in the NRL, let alone to a top 8 spot

The Titans with Jayden Campbell and Toby Sexton in action will make them one of the most appealing drawcards of season 2022.
