Peachey finds new home for 2022

By Nathan Ryan / Expert

Tyrone Peachey is on the move to Wests Tigers next season.

After three seasons with the Gold Coast Titans, Peachey is poised to return to Sydney after agreeing to terms on a two-year-deal with the Tigers.

The Roar understands the deal is worth around $800,000 with an official announcement imminent.

One of the most versatile players in the game, Peachey has been identified by the Tigers as a ball playing lock.

However, his ability to cover a range of positions from back row, five-eighth, hooker and centre makes him a genuine utility option for the club.

Given Adam Doueihi is recovering from a knee reconstruction, Peachey could well start the year in the No.6, although new Tigers recruit Jackson Hastings is also an option.

Regardless of his position, there’s no denying Peachey will provide some much needed fire power to their attack.

It’s understood Peachey spoke with both Tim Sheens and Michael Maguire as part of the recruitment process and harnessing his creativity with the ball was a major point of discussion.

A ball playing lock is so important given the speed of the game and Peachey’s instinctual play will add another dimension to their attack.

Sports opinion delivered daily

While he played State of Origin for NSW in 2018, he has not featured in a finals series for three years.

The Tigers haven’t made the finals since 2011 and believe adding a player of Peachey’s ilk, in addition to the other handy new recruits they’ve landed will put them in a strong position to break the streak.

With almost 180 top flight games to his name, Peachey has taken a pay cut in order to move closer to home.

It’s been well reported he received interest from a host of clubs from Brisbane to Parramatta.

Neither could not compete with the other offers he received.

At 30, Peachey is at a pivotal period in his career.

Canberra expressed a strong interest and offer for Peachey but ultimately the Tigers landed their man.

The joint venture will look to continue their momentum following Peachey’s signing and now turn their attention to the backline.

You do realise it’s the Wests Tigers, not west tigers as you continue to offer. Of course you do, but figured disrespecting the already disrespected would be a hoot. My reference to the batter vs batsmen scenario was simply to highlight an ever changing need to tinker with language/emphasis etc to help ensure greater equity. Being more inclusive can only ever be a good thing. I put it to you that post the joint venture, very few Balmain fans drifted away from the Wests Tigers , but a hell of a lot of Western Suburbs fans did. There is a reason for that. I also suggest that if a genuine effort was seen to be made by the Wests Tigers to find a genuine middle ground, many of the old Magpies could still be won back.

Now I also get what you are asking for and why. I wonder if it has occurred to the west tigers fan base that these exact crisis of identity of the fan base is exactly what has driven the club to where it is now. I think equating it to gender equality is an incredibly long bow and shows how detached from reality this has become. But congrats you’ve changed my view. I find the women’s rights angle so ridiculous that I worry about what a close affiliation with the Wests history does. So carn the Tigers!!

Not has but more will. Or they'll rip what attachment has been made and reposition (as per your other article). Just can't see any future where you have both living in harmony. I couldn’t disagree more on the duelling cultures. If your organisation is purporting to have two cultures for the same core business it means it has none which are effective. Culture has to underpin strategy, if you've got two cultures you either have no strategy or two, and two is worse. A case study in it: West Tigers. Flip flopping with what they stand for at an organisational level (as you wrote about recently...). Now you can perhaps run separate sub organisations, which normally takes a very well run head co with a heavily embedded culture. Now that still doesn’t flow to the “West Tigers” and no one in their right mind would describe their “what day is it” structure as well run or heavily embedded.

Just to be clear, your final paragraph is saying that Wests Tigers are in fact Balmain, and that Wests “has been lost”. I totally disagree that dueling cultures need be too hard to deal with. I’m simply suggesting that people/journos refer to ‘Wests’ as often as they do Manly, Souths, Penrith etc ... which in turn reduces the use of the ‘Tigers’ in line with common use of Sea Eagles, Rabbitohs, Panthers etc. It shouldn’t be a huge issue. It’s a respect thing. Language is important, which is why terms and references are forever being revised, most recently the batters v batsmen change (out of respect for half the population).

If I hear tigers in regards to something this millenium I think the the current club. The time to think about this was a couple of decades back, the non west fans just don't have the incentive or inclination to adjust their language. You're fighting a battle that's in a war everyone's moved on from. This is the reality of a merger, it starts off with trade offs and joint this and that but one identity invariably gets lost as it is really difficult and inefficient for a business to manage dueling cultures, histories and brands and engage future fans.

So if you hear tigers, it’s an old Balmain reference? You know like Tigers greats Elias, Roach etc ... or Tigers spiritual home blah blah. Tigers history flows into the modern day Tigers but for some reason, Wests history isn’t allowed to flow into a modern day Wests. I just think it’s time to redress the balance a bit and reconfigure the lexicon. It’s a respect thing.

Why's it so important that they do? If someone said "wests" I'd assume it was an old magpies reference. It's just not something that's in the lexicon. It's totally Fetch

Only he knows the answer to that. It's time he told himself there is no contract for him after this season and is free to go to market. Also to thank himself for his services to the club and to wish himself all the best for his future endeavours.

Very true. I don't know why they didn't call the joint venture Western Suburbs Tigers with the knowledge that it would be abbreviated to Wests.

Question. What does Millward do all day for f%$k sake? Sit in front of his Play Station console waiting for the managers of over the hill players to contact him?

Unless, of course, you are Lazy Davy. Now that's what I call an inflated wage. And paid by the same club that signed the contracts for Hayne and Taylor.
