Cricket Australia has announced that a Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and Victoria, meant to start on Friday at the SCG, has been “postponed due to a possible COVID-19 case in the Victorian side”.
According to a CA statement, bowling all-rounder Will Sutherland “has returned a test result which requires further analysis.
“The Victorian team is currently self-isolating while this analysis and investigation takes place. Cricket Australia will provide further updates in due course.”
Test batter Marcus Harris and Australia A players Nic Maddinson and Scott Boland were not part of the Victorian squad for this match due to being selected for national duties this week.
Friday’s clash was set to be the third consecutive match between New South Wales and Victoria with the opponents having not been allowed to enter other states.
Sutherland, 22, has become a regular of the Victorian side since making his first-class debut in 2019. A former Australian under-19s representative, he plays for the Melbourne Renegades in the BBL.

I don't know the percentages, but it's still a reasonable chance to spread amongst the vaccinated, albeit at a lower rate. The biggest difference is the health outcomes for those infected.

So when we see a bloke with short back and sides, wearing a suit and tie no matter what, reeking of Californian Poppy and holding doors open for women, we'll have found Frank. Paine won't be missed. Inglis captained under 19s. Make him captain and wicketkeeper. Advantage, he's not from NSW.

Saw that stunning pair of innings. Up there with Katich's triple-century against Qld as the best batting I've witnessed at the SCG.

Nice, now is the chance to churn him to the curb. Throw Carey into the meat grinder that is the Ashes cauldron. If ENG didnt have an advantage on winning the Ashes, they do now,in spades. ENG 4-1 now. For shame Cricket Australia! For shame!

Meanwhile.... Tim Paine quits as captain (and surely won't be long in the team as keeper only) because of a 4 year old sexting incident.

That's right. Surely they can't have forgotten that?

Just read that the Hodge-Matthews Trophy is a real thing. Baffling.

About 25 years ago a trophy was struck. It was named the Harvey-Miller trophy. Highly appropriate, given that each was an Australian great who represented both States. It would be sad if subsequent administrators have forgotten about it, and it is now gathering dust on a shelf in a locked storeroom somewhere.

So what's the latest with this debacle? Are we going to see any play or is the whole match off? Given that Harris and Maddinson have already picked there is kind of no point to the game anyway. As a proud VIC man, I will be enjoying a pot of cider during the games of the Ashes. Meet me at Bar Bianco (shhhh my bar) for a chin wag! BTW only 19 days until the Ashes! I heard them announce it this morning on the Triple MMM breakfast show :)

your comments are always absurd - broad and anderson are a better fast bowling option than cummins and hazelwood for an example - but you have really topped yourself here.

You would be happy with the New York Yankees. No beards or mullets ever allowed, even for guys on ten million a year.
