There are just two days to go in the 2021 AFL trade period and there are still plenty of deals yet to be completed. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action of the penulimate day of action from 9am (AEDT).

Yesterday was more notable for the deals that didn’t get through, with Rory Lobb’s manager declaring his return to Greater Western Sydney – that seemed to pick up serious momentum over the weekend – was no longer happening.

We’ve seen stranger things happen in the trade period though, so we’ll continue to keep an eye out.

One deal that does look dead and buried is a move from Hawthorn to the Giants for Chad Wingard. Wingard famously told the Giants not to draft him back in 2011, so a move to Homebush would have been laced with irony, but public and emphatic social media comments from the ex-Port Adelaide player scuttled a deal the two clubs had allegedly worked out.

There was a trade, however, with Patrick Lipinski finalising his move from the Western Bulldogs to Collingwood in exchange for pick 43, while the other big development was Port Adelaide ruckman Peter Ladhams officially requesting a trade to Sydney.

Elsewhere, there’s still plenty to go down on deals involving Jordan Dawson (whose move to Adelaide is looming closer after the Crows made another offer to the Swans), Jordan Clark (Fremantle and Geelong are still locked in a stalemate), Bobby Hill (GWS are trying to speak to other Victorian clubs instead of Essendon), and the quartet of ruckmen in Jonathon Ceglar, Max Lynch, Tristan Xerri and Darcy Fort.

Join The Roar for a live blog of all the latest news throughout the trade and free agency period, starting from 9am (AEDT).

West Coast payed what Geelong commanded yet that's WCE fault? WCE where fair to Kelly did everything Geelong wanted to get him home. Geelong would have made him go to the draft to be drafted who knows where. Real fair Geelong. VARDY for pick 72 sheesh WCE where generous considering he is crap and wasn't even being played at Geelong. Nice example of fairness pretty much a joke right?

I think this will be an end for now in any realistic attempts for Jack Lukosius to come to the Crows any time soon as the early pick is gone and position of need is covered. Dawson’s disposal by foot is elite and he plays much the same as Luko has this year. Makes sense to trade for a getable player at a more affordable price when is from SA. Good trading.

If the Giants have the edge it is because they had more quantity and quality of early talent. Unarguable! But the hatred isn’t explained by that alone. It goes to the character of a person who hates a club that continually fails to achieve because they are given so little, yet the media portrays it as so lucky and fortunate to be given anything at all. SOS living in his Kee mansion must take a piss of his million dollar balcony every morning imagining he’s pissing on the whole world in his privileged bubble.

Let’s put a pin in this and I’ll get investigating. One thing I will say is that when GCS and GWS came in there were even crazier compo picks going around that could be deferred year after year. I suspect you have half of this straight and the rest is tied up in past abandoned rules.

Yeah the other thing is the list management of the giants has been more creative and more targeted. Now I think the suns have improved this but their first few years they were horrendous just taking super star players for the sake of it. Now they’re a little More targeted

But that’s not quantifiable. In isolation the Suns have been compensated well for their trades as have the Giants. Comparing Lynch and Cameron, you are right. Pick 3 for Lynch was low, but if you break down the whole Cameron deal it wasn’t miles ahead. It doesn’t explain SOS saying he hates the Suns.

List managers , Small men syndrome, I,m smarter than you , Look at me , Hogging the spotlight. Now you are putting these blokes on TV ,, 13 days of absolute garbage , Biggest problem is clubs paying ridiculous money for certain players $ mil here $ mil there AFL needs to set a maximum for players then you wouldn’t have salary cap issues ,5 days get it done , These blokes are worse than politicians,

Thom, is there a limit on how many successive years you can trade a future first pick? I wonder how many clubs actually know what they are doing when trading picks and future picks — Melbourne seem to have made it an art form. Collingwood’s pick 58 I believe originated as a Melbourne future first, then a Brisbane future first, then a Geelong future first, then Gold Coast 2021 and now Collingwood. Clubs have to be quick on their feet when it comes to live trading on draft night. The AFL must have some amazing computer software to be on top of all this and presumably the clubs have access to that software on draft night.

I mean plenty of people do. I went to the Giants bombers game earlier this year and I reckon there were more bombers supporters there then Giants supporters. I think part of the reason the Giants cop less hate is because they’re able to extract a better price for their players and their considerably better at trading than the Gold Coast Suns. Is it unfair? 100%. Is it inaccurate? No

I saw that Fox had updated the article to include him saying the Blues Col. Not that he deserves to be spoken about regardless. Cornes is getting what he wants and that is people like me tuning into to hear his next outrageous comment.

Dogs will still need to select 3 players at the draft. They will get Sam Darcy, but then you're looking at a couple of 4th rounders. On balance, losing Lin Jong to early retirement, Lewis Young and Patrick Lipinski to trade for a green ruck/forward and a couple of long shots isn't ideal. They might well elevate a rookie instead of using both of their last two draft picks. FYI the Dogs have picks 23, 43, 44, 45, 52, 93. If GWS nominate Darcy at pick 2, the Dogs lose all those picks except 93, but the chump change from the picks exhausting is about pick 62. However, if GWS bid 3rd on Darcy, all of Collingwood's points will burn 4 or 5 picks and the Dogs picks come in several places and leave them with 2 picks around 50, 51. Another scenario could see the Dogs trading back from 23, which I would bank on them doing because while they want points to match and don't care about 23's potential, they will want to preserve a pick in the 40s for them to use after matching the bid.

Professor, the Pies got the Suns future 4th back in that trade and traded back from 22 to 27 with a future 3rd from Fremantle. An exchange of first round picks might get the job done. I can't see GWS being worried about finishing lower on the ladder than Collingwood. They might even get pick 2 again or the Pies might take the sporting chance and make up for their terrible deal when giving away their 1st rounder to GWS last year. If Collingwood were to put their future first on the table, they could get a future 2nd and 3rd back plus Hill.

I can't for the life of me understand why people don't hate GWS. Plenty of people hate the Suns, even many self-flagellating so-called Suns fans I've come across, yet everybody's like "Toby isn't given a fair go" and the media praises their recruitment despite them being forced to trade 6 players across 2019 to now plus 3 free agents walking out and Jackson Hately going to the PSD. The Suns have only had a chaotic period like that when Bedwetter Lynch and Steven "shagga" May were run out of town.
