The deals are set to come thick and fast now, with day four of the 2018 trade period set to begin at 10am (AEST). Join me as we discuss all the official trades, free agency moves and, of course, the litany of juicy rumours throughout the day.
After a slow-ish day yesterday saw Scott Lycett finalise his move and Dylan Shiel pick Essendon, we’re set to see the floor open a bit more this morning.
Carlton have allegedly scored a breakthrough in their pursuit of Adelaide’s Mitch McGovern, with the Swans set to play mediator as they try to improve their draft hand.
The Blues are also set to finally unveil Alex Fasolo as a free agent signing, in what has been one of the most heavily-rumoured moves of the season.
The other big news to come in overnight is North Melbourne may have also secured the services of both Jared Polec and Jasper Pittard from Port Adelaide as they look to improve their side for 2018.
The other big movements we’ll hopefully see progress on today include Dan Hannebery’s move from Sydney to St Kilda, Giants trio Dylan Shiel (Essedon), Rory Lobb (Fremantle) and Will Setterfield (Carlton) finding new homes, as well as any further progress on the Jesse Hogan and Steven May rumours.
The deals that are proving a bit harder to make traction on include Brisbane’s pursuit of contracted duo Lachie Neale (Fremantle) and Marcus Adams (Western Bulldogs), as well as West Coast’s quest for Tim Kelly (Geelong) – with those players’ respective home clubs all (rightfully) playing hardball.
Tune in to The Roar as we bring you all the latest trade news and rumours as they bob up.

Been thinking the same. How does his opportunities increase by being understudy to Gawn instead of Goldstein ??

Same article quoted a system also that rated him at pick 11 in a trade at best don, certainly great numbers but not the full story just the part that suits.

Hickey could be more than just coverage. He is a terrific ruckman who was struck down by injury. He is going surprise a lot of people if he can stay fit and on the park.

Neale ranked seventh of all midfielders in the competition for average contested possessions (15) in 2018, fifth in average disposals (30.3) and fifth in average clearances (7.1). He’s probably a top-30 player in the league. That level of output is not very often replicated by a #58 pick. Dean Kemp, James Hird, Peter Matera...there's been a few rise to the top but not many. Neale is one of those rarities.

Hoping Freo will do a deal for Kelly. WCE have nothing to offer and the sooner Kelly is gone the better. Dont need speculation about him for another season. If it is homesickness he should grab at the chance of playing with Freo. He and his manager are too much of a problem when he will be gone in one season anyway.

Why would someone's job be on the line for respecting existing contracts? Gee, you say some dumb things.

Yes but it was the Freo environment and the Freo coaching that refined him. Freo has Lachie, the product of their own work, on their books. No need to start again. We have lots of kids to do that with already.

Polec, Atley and Simpkin give them plenty of outside tow. I'd say classy support for Cunnington and, eventually, Davies-U, is what Tyson will offer.

Would have taken Finlayson over Pittard any day

Why would Preuss want to go to Melbourne? They already have the best ruckman in the league and are packed with quality forwards. GWS would be a good fit there

He's a good player as long as he doesn't touch, kick or handball the ball. Prob cost Port a place in the finals this year, and I don't think I'm overstating that, he makes some seriously bad mistakes.

Tom Browne dismissing a rumour...ha! "If it's not made up by me, it's not true!"

Last bit of news to come through this afternoon is that Aaron vandenBerg has turned his back on rival interest from Sydney, electing to sign a three-year extension with Melbourne,

Cats have traded Rohan for McCarthy. Rohan is older however McCarthy has had serious issues getting onto the park. Small forward seems to be a tough ask at Geelong, Cockatoo is in the McCarthy camp, Motlop and Christensen both left the club. Menzel kicks goals and no one wants him so not sure what magic Rohan can bring to it.

It was tongue in cheek, Pete!

One of my favorites too. Occasional brilliance with quite a lot of going missing but that's part and parcel of playing in the Swan's forward line with Buddy attracting most of the inside 50s. It's a win for the Swans in reducing salary cap pressure and showing players that when they ask for a trade the club will get them where they want to go. The price is getting under value. It's been a terrible year for Gary and I hope the move back to family for him, wife and daughter helps them.

Swans general manager Tom Harley has said a deal to get Dan Hannebery to St Kilda is nearing completion. He's also hinted at Nic Newman staying with the club after all, given North no longer appear to have need for the uncontracted defender.

Tom Browne dismissing a rumour is comical. An oxymoron in Browne's context.

Here's a quick recap of all the official moves that have taken place today; Carlton secured the services of Mitch McGovern from Adelaide in a three-way trade with Sydney. The Blues received McGovern and Adelaide's 2019 third-round draft pick. The Crows received pick 13 (from Sydney), Carlton's 2019 fifth-round pick and the rights to mature age SANFL prospect Shane McAdam. The Swans received picks 26, 28 (Carlton) and 40 (Adelaide). Sydney were involved in another three-way trade, sending Gary Rohan to Geelong, who sent pick 61 to North Melbourne who, in turn, sent Ryan Clarke to the Swans. North Melbourne completed their deal for Jared Polec, signing him, Jasper Pittard and pick 48 from Port Adelaide in exchange for pick 11 and a 2019 fourth-round pick. West Coast bolstered their ruck stocks, signing Tom Hickey, pick 60 and a 2019 fourth-round pick from St Kilda in exchange for pick 39 and a 2019 fourth-round pick. Brisbane sent picks 24, 58 and 79 to Gold Coast for picks 32, 41, 44 and 79.

Couple of little tidbits coming in late; Stephen Silvagni has said Levi Casboult will probably end up staying at the Blues after all, and that their signing of Alex Fasolo is just about complete. St Kilda have aggressively shot down prospects of promising youngster Ben Long being traded to Essendon or Melbourne. Nic Newman's future is up in the air after North Melbourne's interest in him appears to have cooled. Newman did get mentioned in the list of farewells by John Longmire and Sydney's best and fairest, so you'd assume he's on the way out.
