After enjoying a Cinderella run last year, Brisbane have found the going a lot tougher in 2020. Round 1 saw them outclassed by Hawthorn at the MCG and, although they got the win, they were made to work from siren-to-siren by a tenacious Fremantle side last week. They’ll face their biggest test yet against a top-tier opposition out for revenge.
That opposition is West Coast, who were embarrassed in one of the biggest ever AFL upsets last week – falling to the Gold Coast Suns by 44 points. Hub life couldn’t have started any worse for the Eagles, who now need to navigate this fixture without the suspended superstar defender Jeremy McGovern.
Ironically, the Lions also enjoyed a thumping 44-point win over the Eagles in their last encounter – way back in Round 1, 2019. That win broke a run of eight consecutive West Coast wins in this fixture, however, with those victories coming at an average of 50 points.

Fairweather? As opposed to you who never see’s anything wrong. Disagree with me but don’t call me fairweather, you know nothing about me. How many times in last 2 weeks has brander butchered the ball? Has Petch even been playing, completely unnoticeable. I’m prepared to give Brander a chance, but Petch needs to go prove himself in the 2s in the contest.

Yes l did watch last week. You should know never to assume and be so forthright in knowing what l did and didn't watch. Lions played finals last year and Freo didn't. Lions clearly ahead by a fair margin.

The issue isn’t the loss. It’s the lack of grit. I think there’s a general consensus out there on this lack of effort... which has been lurking since 2019. I’m sure I’m not imagining it. A loss is fine, as long as you *actually play*. We’re not just getting beaten, huge scalps damaging to percentage. However, our effort was better this week. And Brander did well for at least half the match. He’s improving nicely. So those are two small positives. JK, Hurn, Redden, Petch... really should be dropped next week. Problem is we have no replacements for them so they’ll have to (try) play. At hub’s end we’ll be 1-4. Can we still make the 8 from there? Very slim chances.
