After enjoying a Cinderella run last year, Brisbane have found the going a lot tougher in 2020. Round 1 saw them outclassed by Hawthorn at the MCG and, although they got the win, they were made to work from siren-to-siren by a tenacious Fremantle side last week. They’ll face their biggest test yet against a top-tier opposition out for revenge.
That opposition is West Coast, who were embarrassed in one of the biggest ever AFL upsets last week – falling to the Gold Coast Suns by 44 points. Hub life couldn’t have started any worse for the Eagles, who now need to navigate this fixture without the suspended superstar defender Jeremy McGovern.
Ironically, the Lions also enjoyed a thumping 44-point win over the Eagles in their last encounter – way back in Round 1, 2019. That win broke a run of eight consecutive West Coast wins in this fixture, however, with those victories coming at an average of 50 points.
