An empty MCG will stand witness to another clash between two of the AFL’s oldest rivals, the Collingwood Magpies and Carlton Blues, vie for bragging rights in this always heated clash. Tune in to events from Melbourne with live scores on The Roar from 3:20pm (AEST).
The AFL weren’t able to relocate this match out of Melbourne, so they’ll be forced to play it behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the state.
It’s now or never for the Blues to make a charge for finals. They’re yet to beat a single top-eight side this year, but a win would likely leave them just a game outside with five rounds to go.
They’ll have to do it without injured captain Patrick Cripps, who has finally succumbed to ‘soreness’ accumulated over years of punishment. However, important backman Liam Jones is back after being a late withdrawal for last week’s loss to Geelong.
The Pies took down another old foe last week in Richmond with a barnstorming final quarter, to register Robert Harvey’s first win as caretaker coach.
Finals are all but off the agenda for them, but they’d love nothing more than to drag the Blues down with them here.

Walsh is a freak Kane. I hope Nick Daicos can be that player for us in the future. Did you see the age article on the Pies and Blues? Interesting reading https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/it-s-the-finals-countdown-how-long-until-blues-pies-reignite-finals-rivalry-20210715-p58a6d.html

Thanks Pete, we were terrible for 3 quarters, very inconsistent. We have a lot of improvement in us. Sam Walsh is an unbelievable talent, I don't reckon I've ever seen anyone like him, he's the complete package but just keeps getting better. We have a lot of players that aren't delivering on their potential ie Martin, Fisher, Williams etc that we need to get more consistency out of if we are to go anywhere soon. Didn't think I'd say this 6 months ago but I reckon we need Eddie to go around again as we are lacking a bit in the small forward department, Owies has been great but he's more of a lead and mark type than a crumbing forward.

SPS could be trade bait? Maybe wants to return to perth. We can bundle SPS , newnes & obrien or casboult for Sean Darcy. I believe he is home sick Darcy and misses milking cows … him & TDK make a great duo.

Pittonet out for 6. Casboult usually stands in but also out.

A shame the work experience kid forgot to turn comments on during the game. Congrats to Macca, Col, Kane, Doggie, Diesel and co. Thought we would just keep you at bay like the first three quarters with Roughy keeping big Harry under control and wasn’t expecting that last quarter after our last couple. Haven’t seen much of the Blues this year. That Walsh kid has a huge tank doesn’t he? Other thoughts from this limited showing is the Blues have a couple of players who are a bit flashy in Williams and Martin. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though once your side is contending as you want that X factor then. These blokes can look out of place when your side is struggling but can be cream when you’re up and about. Think Aker Brisbane version rather than Doggie version. Other thoughts are you fellas need a ruckman. Are they out injured? I thought the game was pretty bad first half as it seemed a competition for who could kick more to the opposition but the blues found their mojo last qtr much like the pies last week.

Saints Port & Giants will do you.
Macca

The one thing with SPS is that when he is in the contest I am comfortable he will win it and we will maintain possession when he disposes of it, just needs to do it more often.
Macca

Still think it could come down to the last week. Could easily see us winning the next 3 ( especially if Curnow is back by the second or third).

Couldn't be any worse than what they usually dish up Hopefully grows into it. Probably more a natural at a sports/pub night though.

That is a hurtful attack and on his IQ. More so than his football side.

On Harry, I heard something about him playing with a toe issue which was restricting him as well. On Jack, just bleeds navy blue, what better tribute to his Nonno than playing his heart out in a great win over the biggest rival.
