The Essendon Bombers are searching for their first win and the St Kilda Saints are looking to bounce back at Marvel Stadium. Stay up to date with their AFL clash with live scores on The Roar from 4:35pm (AEDT).
Things could hardly be going any worse for Essendon to start 2021. They let a mammoth half time lead slip against Hawthorn in a heartbreaking Round 1 loss, before getting blown off the park by Port Adelaide last week and suffering injury carnage in the process. With their backs well and truly against the wall, the Bombers need to dig deep early in the season.
St Kilda did some deep digging of their own in Round 1, fighting off a mammoth injury list to see off the Giants in a close one, but they found the going too tough against Melbourne last week and went down by three goals. The Saints still aren’t at full strength, but they have no excuses not to put their opponents to the sword this evening.
The Saints were too good when these sides played last year, winning by 35 points after a dominant first half to give them five wins from their last seven clashes. St Kilda have been Docklands specialists of late, winning six of their last eight games at the venue, whereas as the Dons have lost three of their past four.

Turn that frown upside down. The bombers injuries are the worst in the league, we are missing two all Australian caliber defenders, our starting ruck man, 2 starting midfielders, and the team captain. While I’m more than happy to come up against McKernan instead of Ryder and Marshall it is only a part of the malaise affecting the saints

I've never really rated the current Saints midfield but I always thought they brought effort to every contest. But against essendon and also against Melbourne they just didn't go for it like they normally do. you're probably right, teams walk taller with a bloke like Ryder in the side but if they keep playing like that they'll struggle to win games before the bye, and they can point to injuries all they like but Essendons injuries are arguably the worst in the league. I'd back Ratten to turn their attitude around but he'll wanna do it quickly.

It’s their pressure post contest. They’ve elected to go smaller with their forward line and the forwards are not bringing the pressure when the ball is on the deck to be won. They’re also exceptionally low on confidence, that being said I predict things aren’t as dire as everyone says, they can move back to their two ruck system next week with Ryder and hopefully that’ll lead to some improvement

GC and GWS will each win their second (and first) before the Aints win their second.

Saints in abit of trouble, they could easily be 0-6, injuries hurting them, no real ruck and their pressure was terrible.

Well North may have been poor, but no one really expected them to challenge the Bulldogs, meanwhile St Kilda are a top 8 side that were favourites going in against a side that a lot of people are picking to be bottom 4. Saints were far worse.

Not according to Librans. Why were Benaud and Chappelli such dapper dressers?

No they weren’t I agree, while I’m not sure if the bombers will finish eighth I think as long as we show steady improvement through the season and players put their best foot forward I’ll be happy. I’ve been impressed with the kids thus far, I think Harry Jones was underrated, and Nik Cox has coped well with the pressure, he’s very skilled for a big man, all that remains to be seen is is Zach Reid any good haha

Not me, I got pounded for calling you eighth before the season started. In saying that, the first two week were not good.

They were saying Essendon would be 0-6 after last week.

And is there anything wrong with that?

I have a lot of Virgo, Scorpio and Aquarius energy in me as well. People usually pick me as a Scorpio= intensity, Aquarius= crazy guy. My Virgo is because I'm very analytical.

Swans aren’t aiming for the top eight after today’s performance. They should aim for the top four at least until the bombers kick em back in the dirt haha

I always thought Hind would be good. He has been given the role that suits his talents.
