The time is now for the Fremantle Dockers: victory over the badly out of form Brisbane Lions in front of a purple-packed crowd will go a long way to securing a drought-breaking finals berth. Follow along with Sunday evening footy action on The Roar with live scores from 5:10pm (AEST).
As the rest of the country grapples with COVID-19 chaos, seeing the crowd erupt at the end of the Dockers’ thrilling win over Richmond last week was a sight to behold. Pray Western Australia can hold out the virus at least until the Western Derby next week – with a big crowd at Optus Stadium, that will be epic.
In the here and now, though, the Dockers must sense an opportunity here. Half a game clear of GWS in eighth spot on the ladder, a finals spot is theirs for the taking. Despite being without captain Nat Fyfe for the season with a shoulder injury, Freo seem more than capable of covering his loss, with young guns Andrew Brayshaw and Adam Cerra outstanding against the Tigers.
Just as importantly to them, though, is the Lions’ recent form. Since losing forward Eric Hipwood with a season-ending knee injury, Chris Fagan’s team have fallen from premiership contenders all the way down to sixth on the ladder, losing to St Kilda, the Tigers and Hawthorn and only putting on a half of good footy against Gold Coast.
If Brisbane have any aspirations of fighting back into double-chance calculations, they need to leave Perth with a win here. Similarly, defeat here would be disastrous for the Dockers, whose lowly percentage means they simply must grab as many premiership points as they can in the run home.
With reigning Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale out with illness, the Lions have turned to self-appointed ‘barometer’ Rhys Mathieson to fill the void; while the Dockers welcome back key defender Alex Pearce for the big job on Joe Daniher.

Yep, unfortunately I lack your ability to create my own reality Don, I am stuck wishing for a better one.

Wishing? Macca's lot.

“can’t beat anyone below them” Fortunately we don’t have anyone below us left to play but the Saints were below the BLues last week. But yeah, I only wish we could be as good as the great Freo an be 12th instead of 13th relying on a 36 year old to be our best player each week.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
No need to imagine. You can read the ladder and work it out. They are below most teams and right now can't beat anyone below them.
Macca
Roar Rookie
Yep imagine where we would be if we didn’t get to play Freo twice!
Maxy

Macca

Blues have been far more competitive in their losses.
Macca
Roar Rookie
Nah, in Dons head they actually won!
Don Freo

And still ahead of the Blues who fall at every hurdle. How bad are they?

I make it 6 of 11 losses by 40 points or more and just 2 by under 20. When they lose they are rarely competitive

A performance we needed. Couple of adjustments worked well. Coleman in the backline showed plenty. Provided a little spark and was clean and composed

Who’s that leave ? I’ve heard the same sort of thing about every other team.
Don Freo
Roar Rookie
Not really. This loss was most likely. Beat WC and St Kilda and we make it. WC, Essendon and GWS/Tiges (whoever wins next week) fight out the other posts.
