Two teams fresh off encouraging wins go head-to-head as the Fremantle Dockers host the Hawthorn Hawks at Optus Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores from 8:40pm (AEST).
The Dockers rebounded nicely from a disappointing fortnight, knocking off Collingwood by 12 points in one of the upsets of the season. Freo had always been better than their record suggested but, after sub-par efforts against West Coast and Geelong, it was important they got back on track. A win tonight will move them out of the bottom four.
Hawthorn also got themselves back on track after a month of bad efforts. Despite surrendering the first five goals of their game against Carlton, the Hawks were untouchable after quarter time and looked like their vintage selves in a 31-point win. They’d need a lot to go their way to play finals, but performances like that will make them unpalatable opposition.
Fremantle have an atrocious recent record against Hawthorn, losing the last six consecutive meetings and 12 of the last 13. Their lifetime winning percentage of 22 against the Hawks is their lowest against any AFL club. Hawthorn have won on all three of their visits to Optus Stadium.

I'm not diminishing anything, I'm saying that he did the right thing. Cox isn't a fantastic kick but he knows that, case in point was his almost out on the full across goals v the Pies. What he did do was do the team thing, and get the ball in his best mate's hands who is an elite kick of the footy. Cox should absolutely be commended for the way he played, he either got it in Ryan's hands or took the sensible short option, rather than just blazing away without thinking. You think I'm having a crack at the bloke, I'm not at all, I'm commending the way he played. It was good old fashioned defending.

Still not over R23 last year? Can't blame ya', ruined WC's season.

Only 7 were handballs. Some beautiful pin point kicks...many long and very skillful. Why would you try to diminish that achievement? Are you so desperate to stay pessimistic?

hawks theme song doesn't do them any favors either " we're a happy team" more like a kids rhyme

I haven't had much time for the forums this season. Super missing out on the chats :crying:

I'm hoping it's only a stopgap as J-Lo says rather than a long term switch, I think he is still a forward long term. And he can actually kick a set shot, unlike Rory.

That’s because he didn’t try and do anything over the top, most of his kicks and handballs were directly to Luke Ryan. It’s smart football, he knew his limitations and got it in the hands of one of our best users a lot.

What Hawthorn put out there last night was absolutely pathetic performance. As for Clarkson either play the young kids or resign form his coaching position. No more excuses from the hierarchy at Hawthorn.Bottom 2 is more likely position where they will finish.

Cox 100% disposal efficiency from 16 disposals (and 7 marks). "Outstanding" would be my descriptive word.

While the other talls are unavailable, it's fine. He is our second best player behind Fyfe and will succeed in any position. Cox, by the way, has always been a defender (AA U18 CHB). He just had to fill a hole up forward while Tabs, Hogan and co were all injured. Cox disposed of the ball beautifully. It is a strength.

No, they are improving, all three played well last night. Darcy I'm still not sold on but games like that certainly give you hope, I still think his fitness has to improve. Cox seems far more at home in defence rather than attack, a bit Dawson like, you don't want him kicking but if he plays to his strengths he will be a good backup to Hamling, Pearce and Logue when they are fit. Tabs is the one though, you've been proven right there, it's taken a few years but he is finally becoming that target we have wanted... Thoughts on Hogan playing in defence?

Totally agree. Seems to be a mental issues. I just heard JL on the radio he said that he kicks goals normally during training and the stutter step only comes in when he's under pressure.

Still hating Darcy, Taberner and Cox?

Without 6 best 22 players. I wouldn't devalue it too much.

I know they are a shadow of their former selves but gee it’s good to beat our bogey side. We had won only once against them in the last 10 years. Between the 2010 Elimination final (where Morabito dominated) and tonight, we won once, I think in 2014 at Subi. That maybe partly due to the fact we were always playing them in Launceston. Now the team with the longest win streak against us are none other than the Eagles…. Please let that one end soon.

Freo lack that finishing touch still which was a bit frustrating and it makes you a touch nervous when we don't put teams away. Having said that your boys didn't really look like scoring, the positives over the negatives. I was at the Hawks v Carlton game and your boys looked so sluggish compared to after quarter time in that game..
