GMBHA Stadium hosts Friday night footy as Round 15 with a clash between the Geelong Cats and Adelaide Crows. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:20pm (AEST).
Yes, this is a tantalising Friday-night clash. We’ll see two big rivals both desperate for a statement win.
The Crows’ last-start victory was two weeks ago, given the bye, and came against an injury-hit Richmond.
Geelong, though, are coming off a bad loss last Saturday in South Australia. That defeat, against Port Adelaide, continued the Cats’ dreadful post-bye record. The thing is, though, their record in the round-after-the-round-after-the-bye is superb, which might worry the Crows.
Adelaide’s last few weeks have been strong (three straight wins before the bye), and that sees them sitting in fifth place heading into tonight’s clash.
The Cats, despite last week’s loss, are still in first, but losing this one coupled with a Collingwood win on Saturday would see their one-game advantage on the ladder evaporate.
Both teams have made a couple of changes for tonight’s clash. Adelaide have lost three players to injury: Josh Jenkins, Wayne Mileria and Cam Ellis-Yoleman. Byrce Gibbs, Elliott Himmelberg and Ben Davis are all included in tonight’s squad.
Geelong have made two changes: Darcy Fort’s been omitted, while Gary Rohan is out through injury. Lachie Fogarty and Jed Bews are their replacements.
Prediction
History says Geelong should be winning this one. But history often means naught. The Crows have looked better recently, but at home, I’m going to back the Cats to win.
Geelong by 22 points.

It ebbed n flowed in the 1st, we were faux dominant in the 2nd, hanging on in the 3rd and outclassed, with speed, in the 4th. Our hanball was slick at times. But kilometres ran, and the speed they were ran at, killed us. Our fitness is an issue. Tex is slow and leaden. Bryce is awol. Talia struggling a bit.

I'm not being sucked into the Goodes thing again. All I will say is if booing is for racist reasons it has no place. Otherwise go for it. If sportsmen and women can accept cheers, they must be willing to accept jeers. If booing can get inside their head or put them off their game then I suggest the player needs to eat a bowl of concrete and harden up!

McGovern is either injured or missing for huge periods. He is not your no1 guy up forward. He needs 2 other big guys who take the 2 best defenders. Basically he’s what Lever is but as a forward. Overpaid and overrated.

You thought.. well that’s ok then.

So it’s bad when Goodes gets booed but ok for others?

Oh dear. If you actually read the article it supports my exact point and makes a mockery of yours. From your own player last year stating the coaches always have a plan B, C and beyond. I think you should just watch the footy 6×6. Beyond that is …dire.

Really? Adelaide got away with holding the ball I lost count how many times. Umpires had no bearing on result though so who really cares. They get things wrong both ways.

You really need to apply your time on the weekends a bit better man than searching old west Australian articles, that article really doesn't apply to the point you're trying to make.

Oh dear. Even your own players know about plan B 6x6. How embarrassing to have to point it out to you. https://thewest.com.au/sport/west-coast-eagles/afl-finals-2018-west-coast-eagles-tagger-mark-hutchings-has-plan-b-up-his-sleeve-ng-b88965669z.amp

Have to agree. Nicnac back today. Could be exciting. I still think you are going down. Simpson looked nervous. I still don’t think I can barrack for the Hawks.

I thought Stanley was winning mostly and Adelaide midfield were reading it and stealing. Looked like a plan. Must have spent a bit of time watching Stanley. With Bliz, they hadn’t studied him.

Adelaide absolutely flogged us in the center in the first quarter and a half. We were playing on the back foot because they just kept taking it from center with ease. Significant time with Blics as ruck, Stanley moved forward and Kolo onto Walker about halfway through the second changed the flow.

Considering the ruck make up of other likely finalists it's a smart move by Scott to start trialling some different things in second half.

I didn’t think it was our ruck that caused us to trail at the end of the first quarter. Adelaide just came at us hard. As you would if you consider yourself a contender playing the top side.

Obviously the fixture makers. Cats had a very hard start (would have been even harder had Melbourne not imploded upon themselves and Essendon actually learned to handle expectations). Now they have a soft back end. To make it further odd, Cat will finally meet Brisbane and Carlton in rounds 22 and 23, respectively, for the first time all year.

Blics didn't play much ruck in the first. It wasn't until half way through the second when he spent a good chunk of time in there that the game changed. Yes, they continued to swap after that but only after we got on top. I thought it was strange we didn't name a tall to replace Sav. Fogs and Bews had definitely earned recalls – and played well, especially Jedi. Abbott, Fort, even Krueger all would have made sense coming in for Sav but obviously they didn't want to drop any of the defenders, hence Henry playing forward. Embarrassment of riches down back.

It was funny, when I read the article I thought I didn’t know that.... must have had to many reds. Then I watched the replay. Stanley should brief his defamation lawyer. He rucked and played OK. Adelaide played well and stole the ball in the midfield. Blitz played extraordinary well, both in ruck and with the ground ball. Generally I would say Scott is not a spur of the moment coach. He normally preplans.

Scott definitely said in the pre game stuff blicavs would be used in the ruck as he planned on trying some different things last night. I agree yatz, from what I saw Stanley was rotating through the ruck not just a permanent fwd.
