It’s a virtual elimination final for both the GWS Giants and Melbourne Demons as they do battle at The Gabba. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:40pm (AEST).

After looking like they were on their merry way to a finals return, disaster struck for Greater Western Sydney last week with an unfathomable loss to the last-placed Adelaide Crows. They still hold onto eighth place by 0.9 percentage points, but they’ve got a tricky fortnight to navigate and need to win.

Melbourne have just about thrown their finals chances out the window over the last fortnight too, dropping very winnable matches against Sydney and Fremantle to fall four points outside the top eight. A better percentage means two wins should see them get back in, but that’s far from a guarantee.

The Giants got up by 26 points when these sides played last in 2019, although the Demons had won three of the four previous matches. This will be the fifth different venue to host a GWS-Melbourne clash in just 13 all-time meetings between the sides.

Not entirely out of the realms of possibility. Collingwood should beat Gold Coast, WB should beat Hawthorn and Fremantle. Melbourne should beat Essendon and the way Essendon has been playing it could be a large margin. GWS could beat St. Kilda. Nothing assured as yet.

Apart from anything else Carlton would need GC to beat Collingwood or Essendon to beat Melbourne - neither are happening

Didn't really care. I actually like both teams. Found myself barracking for the Dees because GWS deserve to lose after treating their captain that way. Why don't they just coach him?

Yep, definite 50, especially at that stage of the game. I thought the deliberate out of bounds against Greene was very harsh.
