Agreed. We’re almost mid-tier this year. Trac butchering it is becoming a trademark. Our young brigade look good though, I hope we can appreciate them enough to keep them.

1st for pressure last year, something like 17th this year. I think complacency or arrogance is to blame. Plus this year’s finalists are of a much higher calibre than last year. Might be a blessing in disguise for the near future, if there’s any reflection in the off-season. But we desperately need to fix that forward line. They won’t be the hunted next year, which sadly is something I think they’ll prefer.

Watching the highlights of the Freo-Dogs game as I missed it last night: noticed the Dogs gave up 4 goals in the last 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter with a near 40 to nil lead, including 3 in the last 2 minutes. That must’ve brought back memories of last year’s Granny. All at the same end of the same ground too.

Your record outside of Perth is excellent this year. Another site was charting the best travelling teams of the year and under there criteria the Dockers were considered the best, just in front of Melbourne.

Melbourne have been at full tilt the last month, they’ve just had better opposition than last year plus everyone else has had a season to analyse the gameplan. Without the Langdon “sledge”, I think we win vs Collingwood, although we are their bunnies. I’m not saying we’ll make it, more that if we don’t it’s because the opposition is that much better than last year. Still, nice to be competing two years in a row.

Ken Oath Cat. My Sister despises soccer because she married a referee and the way he was treated disgusted her. She works in WA Football now and loves the game despite never being into sport growing up.

Trust me, they’re cooked. Plus they’re our bunnies so whilst neutrals thought it might’ve been a close one given what was at stake plus being at the GABBA, I knew we’d win comfortably. The fact that it was worse than the previous defeat shows they don’t know what to look for to overcome our game-plan, despite many examples from teams beating us in the second half of the year and their solution was to “be tougher” shows they’re likely a team not worth considering. Plus it’s there fourth consecutive year in this position, with a 1-5 finals record.
The only thing I could say is I think of them like Port circa 2001-03. Port overcame that stigma to go all the way in 2004. Maybe it’s not worth going back that far to compare eras given how much has changed in that time, but you’d be best positioned to explain what Port did to overcome that. For me it’s an immediate change of Captain and perhaps take the Richmond route of getting in more ideal assistants to support the Head Coach whose done so well so far given what he had but is missing the last few ingredients.

We do it ALL the time 😔 They just gotta calm down on that I50 kick. They should look to Hunt for inspiration. He was always our worst at that, but he’s improved massively this year and his final two minutes was one reason we won, that and Melksham (and Carlton’s inability to be clutch). Interestingly, two players who missed out last years GF.

Yeah it would need to be like Melbourne’s 186 point loss to Geelong in 2011. Under Bailey we were becoming quite competitive, then that happened. So the board (the actual problem) sacked and brought in Mark Neeld…then it did become a pattern.
Furthermore the prior two months have shown Essendon can play good footy, albeit with the pressure off, but that doesn’t seem anything new under Rutten. So what’s he actual issue? You’d know better than me though.

It feels something a simple as just lowering the eyes to fix it, but they just seem incapable of doing it. Look at Vineys centre clearance in the last two minutes: straight over ANB’s head with no one in between.
Plus we rarely have players leading up. Our foot skills have never been the best, but that doesn’t excuse at least trying to use the ball wisely.
I also think this years competition is stronger that last years, with an off-season to analyse our game too.

I seem to recall since Clarkson’s departure from Hawthorn him saying something along the lines of being interested in coaching a big club, which I feel means one of the big Victorian 4, Essendon being one of them and the only one with a realistic coaching vacancy.
I may be misremembering, but that might be why they feel there a chance if what you say is true. But I agree it’s a bit hasty.

Swap Dees and Swans and then Dogs and Blues and that eight is pretty spot on. Dogs fixture compared to Saints and Blues is the reason why, though Saints might be a sneaky chance vs Brisbane.
