The West Coast Eagles travel to Melbourne looking to bank a win over the struggling Hawthorn Hawks for their first points away from home this year. Follow the action with live scores on The Roar from 1:10pm (AEST).
The Eagles are yet to register a win on the road in 2021; given the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Western Australia very nearly pushed them into another hub away from home, they’ll want to rectify that situation, and fast.
Their crippling injury list has another big name on it this week, with defender Tom Barrass joining the likes of captain Luke Shuey, Shannon Hurn and Jeremy McGovern on the sidelines. Third-game tall Harry Edwards will need plenty of support from his teammates to handle Hawthorn’s in-form big forwards.
The Hawks’ status as battlers in 2021 was affirmed with their thumping loss to St Kilda last week. Coach Alastair Clarkson caused a slight stir by blaming youth for the heavy defeat, despite his team being only slightly less experienced than the Saints.
He’s doubled down on that claim by dropping youngsters Damon Greaves and Finn Maginness for this match, though important midfielder Jaeger O’Meara will miss again with soreness.
Opening bounce: 1:10pm (AEST)
Venue: MCG
TV: Fox Footy, Channel Seven (WA only)
Live stream: Kayo Sports, Foxtel Now, Foxtel Go
Betting: Hawks $2.40, Eagles $1.57 (odds via PlayUp)

yes, I got 8, equal best for year, but you getting nine this week is outstanding. I went for Gold Coast, so lost that one.

after everything hes said and done, its a mystery but I guess it comes down to money and power doesn't. Its not what you know, its who you know. Imagine if Sam Newman had said or been involved with what eddie has. He would of been banished way before he was and is.

I thought that Hawthorn's penchant for rushing behinds had been extinguished. Seven!! Is that a record? Another four goals would have helped the %. Couldn't watch the match so can someone fill me in on how they came about?

Yeah, exactly. You've now jumped a game ahead of Freo, which is annoying because before the Derby we were a game ahead of you guys. We could even it up if we win today, but that ain't happening...

Well done to the Eagles good win. I hope the injury to Jk is not bad. The Eagles do not need any more injuries. Now need to keep winning more games in Melbourne. Now back home and get ready to Beat Adelaide Next Week.

In a weird way, if we keep grinding out wins without the cavalry, nice win-win situation, as we get games into some kids.
