The two biggest losers out of Round 14, St Kilda and Sydney, square off in a crucial clash at the SCG, with the loser likely to start next week outside the top eight. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 7:25pm (AEST).
The Swans have been hit by health and safety protocols this week, as they lose defensive pair Harry Cunningham and Justin McInerney for this encounter. However, they will be bolstered by the return of first choice ruckman, Tom Hickey, as he has recovered from a knee injury sustained in the early rounds of the season.
The Swans struggled to match the intensity of Port Adelaide last weekend. Isaac Heeney was impressive with four goals to his name and Callum Mills featured as the leading possession getter with 27 disposals. These two provide versatility and class through the middle of the ground and hold the ability to snap goals from stoppages. They will be vital to the Swans overcoming the Saints quality midfield.
Jack Steele will be a welcome inclusion for Brett Ratten’s side as they look to solidify their position in the top 8. However, they will need to find an altered balance once again as Bradley Hill will be missing due to personal reasons this week, after having a solid patch of form recently. Paddy Ryder will also be managed for this match and Rowan Marshall will be a standalone ruck for the first time in a while.
The key match up in this game will be who ends up playing on Max King. Dane Rampe is the obvious choice but the McCartin brothers have been up for the challenge all season.
Prediction
After a disappointing loss last week, I think the Swans will win this one by 23 points.

See below Donski! BTW what's your excuse losing to an undermanned Blues team? June 23rd 2022 @ 12:45pm How good is it to have an article written about Football! The best round in a decade barely gets a mention. What cracker games. A tipster minefield! I’m not a betting man and this is the only round I will help you boys out all year – so take note and the winner is Syddeney as well as: Dees – to bounce back against the odds Doggies – on a roll Eagles – feeling at home Blues – off the canvas and come home in a Thriller in Marvel! Cates – by a whisker, they are the H & A Premiers! Syddeney – fight for a top 8 spot North – 2nd big upset of the round Pies – don’t know how or why! Power – at home & getting better each week

Don't get too excited swans fans, Essendon touched us up last week and you've seen what happened to them today. Something wrong with the mentality at st Kilda, no belief or confidence in each other

Defence suits Paddy more than being a forward. He helped out his brother (Tom) well tonight.

The Academy is one thing but the Scones got him and Mills for way under their worth in a fair draft. The AFL finally had to act to make them pay fairer freight on future talent. The NRL thing is a distraction from the real issues.

You’re joking right, he would be playing NRL if not for the swans academy. I am sure that you would prefer that though rather than grow the game outside of greater Melbourne.

Got to love seeing Paddy Mccartin playing well. Yes the saints did not offer a lot, but he seems to be loving playing with his bro, and is a key member of the swans defence. Hope he can avoid any more head knocks.

Wasn’t the most skilful game but you take a 50 point win any day. Defence awesome after the disappointing Port fame

A terrific win. We were without Josh Kennedy, yet we kept the Saints to their lowest score against us, and their lowest score for the year. It was an all round team effort. St Kilda over possessed the ball. St Kilda refused to go down the middle, and you can’t do that against the Bloods. Longmire coached well tonight. We bounced back from a disappointing loss last week. It was a good honest effort. True Bloods football.

Wow the Saints seem to have lost their mojo from that last quarter against Brisbane a couple of weeks back when they got belted around a bit. Can they recover ?

Full time Score Swans - 83 Saints - 32 The Swans win by 51 points The Swans continue towards the finals with a solid win against a quality opponent. Nick Blakey was fantastic and Mills and Lloyd were ball magnets from start to finish. St. Kilda were really poor tonight. They had almost no potency in front of goal and were not able to execute anything through the midfield. I hope they can regather their season. Disposals Swans - Lloyd (39) Saints - Ross (31) Goals Swans - Heeney (3) Saints - Butler, Membrey, Windhager, Billings (1)
