Round 17 ends with Carlton facing a danger game against a rejuvenated West Coast at their one-time fortress in Perth. Join The Roar for live scores and rolling coverage from 4:40pm (AEST).

The Blues might be comfortable favourites heading in, but make no mistake: this is a danger game for the top four hopefuls.

The Eagles have shown fastly improved form since their mid-season bye, bolstered by the return of some big names. While they went down swinging last week against Richmond, it wasn’t without being right in the contest for most of the match, with Nic Naitanui starring in the ruck.

However, the Eagles have lost Elliot Yeo to yet another hamstring injury, while regaining veteran Josh Kennedy. Important forward Jamie Cripps has been ruled out under the AFL’s health and safety protocols in a big blow.

The Blues can rise back to fifth on the AFL ladder if they get the job done here, but defeat would leave them just a game and percentage safe inside the eight, and deal their top-four hopes a massive blow.

Star backman Jacob Weitering’s return is badly needed, with the number one draft pick instantly making the Blues’ defence look more settled.

Agree … We’re 11-5, flogged WC over there by 10 goals (whom we haven’t beaten for 8 years), and play a tough, skilled, exciting brand of football when we’re on. The progress made in Voss & co’s first year in charge has been enormous re the playing group, for the supporter base, and club as a whole. BUT, we are a work in progress: I’d be rapt if we keep taking it one opponent at a time and if we make the finals, fantastic. Personally, I wouldn’t have Plowman, LOB and Newnes in the side, and list management decisions will hopefully improve the quality of our bottom six players going forward. We’ve been going through the worst period in our history, and even during our glory years under Barass, Big Nick, (maybe not under Jezza in ’79), Parko and Wallsy, Carlton had a habit of dropping games they were expected to win, or losing the unloseable. They’ll break your heart, and frustrate the hell out of you at times, but they’ll also give you some of the most happiest times of your life … they always do. So let’s get behind them, because the journey together under Vossy might bring us all some more of what makes us proud to be Carlton supporters, and which we’re starting to feel is returning already.

Mate.. our best side lost to Geelong by nearly 100, last year Swans ran up cricket scores twice against us with our alleged "A team". The whole COVID narrative papers over our talent warrants we will finish 15th at best. We must trade aggressively and get the pick of the talent for 3-4 years before we will contend again. Our best side finished 9th last year.. this slide down the ladder has been going on for 4 years.

He had a good last quarter. A week off won't achieve anything, he needs to get back to backing in his mates. He's been trying to do too much by himself again the last few weeks

Despite injuries to our entire backline worth of defenders this season , Carlton remain only 1 of 3 teams yet to concede triple figures in a match. Melbourne & Freo the other sides. Really impressive . McGovern back next week .

That has been said a lot. Give us our best players with no lingering injuries and three months of Covid-free training. That would be our best team.

Uncanny accuracy from the Eagles and rubbish goals from frees to Carlton, which didn't reflect the tenor of the game.

Looking forward to it. While we’ve had lapses in games we’ve rarely put awful performances in as a whole. We’re a decent chance and it’s not at GmHbA which is enough for me to have some confidence !

Fair enough but keep winning & peak in performance in finals & not prior just have the nucleus to go bang when it counts at the pointy end

Nah, spoken by someone that watched the game and seen us get absolutely flogged in the middle half of the game and someone who has seen us at our worst in the last 5 years. Went back to our old habits there for awhile. Still got a few players who's position on the line, there's no doubt about that as these are the players that choked when the pressure came.

Oh you’re playing finals Macca. Likely preliminary and anything can happen from there

I think that’s fair enough Pete. You just belted a side by ten goals.

Pete, Carlton have been too inconsistent for too long it's hard to shake the doubt. Should Carlton show consistentcy over a decent period of time, then I'll get on board more and show more confidence. Back today's effort by knocking off Geelong next week and I'll quickly become a believer.

Disappointing to see so much pessimism still persists among Blues supporters after a great season to date. Apparently we were poor today despite more than doubling the oppositions score and winning by 63 points. Yet the Cats who are now apparently unbeatable could only dispose of them by 18 points a few weeks back. Gotta learn to enjoy life and winning games of football. Go Blues !!

Easy to look back after the game. But at 3/4 time 17pts is gettable after seeing what happened in the 2nd qtr.

It’s good we only need 2 wins in the last 6 but there are some good opportunities for us to prove our worth

That first of the last was my relief point as well, but when you look back, the Eagles kicked 1.2 in 3 quarters.

Nah we don’t drop our bundle for whole games like we used to. Get used to the shifts of momentum it happens in most games not just ones involving Carlton. Start to worry when we dominate but don’t score like the game last week.
