Poor old Jack out of his depth. Footy IQ does not transfer to general IQ. In this case perhaps inverse. Head down mouth shut Jack, do ur talking on the field champ.
Cheers Scotty, we're both chefs so this has hit our whole industry hard, all my chef friends have lost their jobs, every single one, bright side though, my lawn is looking immaculate.
Hit the nail on the head there. I've lost a lot if respect for the likes of Jack Paddy etc. Certainly they're out of touch.
Sorry to hear Brendan. Hope you and yoyr family can make it through these tough times. Cheers mate.
Elite sportsmen are fortunate that they possess the ability to earn large wads of money. I'm not begrudging them that however wonder whether they appreciate that gift which separates them from those who don't.
Take the microphone away before he destroys his upcoming media career.
How benevolent of you Jack, to play footy for two hours all out of the generosity of your enormous heart. Makes those volunteer firefighters that worked for a week straight fighting terrible blazes look like part timers.
What a flog, take the cut like the rest of us you dill, my partner and I have both lost our blinking jobs.
Wilson is Richmond through & through, Riewoldt is a current player, & I’m a long-time supporter, but anyway, I’ve come to the conclusion that Jack should just shut up. I really don’t think he gets it. This far & no further. Please.
Front ended or not. These contracts are based on revenue. That revenue no longer exists for this year at least. 50% cut of wages is not enough especially for all those who have lost their jobs and who find themselves on the dole queue and of those who worked hard all their lives and now see their super all but disappear.
it's the same with Gillon
I appreciate that the simple economics of the business indicate that some salaries need to be reduced and sacrificed, but this idea he should be slashing his salary by 80% in line with the players is just rubbish.
the players are no longer working. Gillion on the other hand is going cap in hand to the banks, lenders and sponsors to keep some revenue trickling in precisely so the players have something to come back to. In other words, he's working hard for them.
The players are ingrates.
That is a very good point about front ended contracts. The impact on the salary cap is interesting too.
I mean, it's not interesting to someone subsisting on jobseeker payments, but from a technical point of view it's interesting. Any footballer though who's crying over the unfairness of their lot needs to get a sense of perspective.
Anyone who has signed up for a phone has been involved in contracts. If the money isn't going to be there then there's no point talking current contract status as they will be null and void if there's not enough cash to pay them. The players have received 50% of their contract for the year which has returned 1 game only so jack Martin has received $750000 for lifting weights not a untidy sum.
I think you don't actually realise the pain isn't this year it will be felt as the recession hits and the players obviously haven't lived through one or they wouldn't be as entitled as what they are acting. Do you remember the last recession or the unemployment of the 70s?
I think I understand what you have said.
The players accept a huge payout is what is needed. They want infer & it ain’t as simple as a normal employee. Some examples.
1. Martins contract at Carlton is extremely front needed. Say he gets $1.5m in 2020, followed by &300k pa for the next 4 years. He’s hit is rediculous given his overall contract.
2. Contracts legally end I think in October. There is talk the comp could go past this date, best case. What happens then. Some players will be out of contract.
3. The AFL has stopped games until the end of May I think. But the players are taking an 80% pay cut for the year?
Some could say these things can be sorted over time. Having been involved in contracts, know the issues up front is the only way.
The story is the players can't accept in these times ppl don't give a flying that they've invested to ridiculous degree and have to train on their own. The game will survive cause ppl will always love the adulation but turn the supporters off and no more Mr big wage for them.
The players aren’t saying no....they just want more info. In fact I think they accept they will have a bl@@#y big wage reduction. There are so many variables between the various contracts and the likely way 2020 will play out, so there is nothing wrong with that. As usual, played up to make a story. Let’s wait to see the final outcome.
Killing the goose that layed the golden egg, a bitter taste is being left by their behaviour, every player who has spoken has sounded like a immature, entitled nong, if a recession hits hard ppl won't be buying Foxtel so that income stream will go and commercial stations won't have a large income stream from advertising, they are being led down the garden path by others whose income is tied to theirs.
