I don't often agree with Robbo, but this time I do. It was tantamount to sniping. He could have pulled out that bump, given the disposal was well underway. I guess it's hard for players because they might get roasted by coaching staff for pulling out, so it puts them in two minds.
Tried to watch the first episode of Fox footy with Robbo and his more erudite mate. I couldn't see it through. Robbo just windbags on about things for far too long. It gets soooo boring.
Watch the video again, Williams has his arms out to tackle right up until he was about 1 stride away - do you really think he was able to achieve "premeditation" in that one stride?
And why is jumping to bump any more premeditated that not jumping to bump? The intent is still to bump and inflict damage on your opponent.
anyone who reckons the game is soft just cause the sniping & head high shirtfronts are on the way out is kidding themselves ... get on you tube & check out how much low/non contact play there was back in the day
Remember the good old days when someone could king-hit a player from behind and break his jaw (and then go on to have a successful coaching career)? That's forethought!
In the future, when the AFL is being sued out of existence over CTE, these weak and inconsistent tribunal decisions will be a nightmare for the QC trying to defend the AFL. The AFL will need to show that it did everything possible to minimise concussion in the game and its Tribunal will leave them very exposed when the time comes.
I don't always agree with Robbo, but I think he is right here. Concussion is an issue that can have catostraphic consequences for the game in the future. The AFL seems to have been asleep at the wheel in recent years when dealing with high tackles and head trauma, with weak and inconsistent penalties. Only a strict and consistent approach by the tribunal is acceptable from now on. Two weeks should be the minimum penalty for Williams' transgression. The Tribunal have made another bad start.
the hip & shoulder is still alive, u just need to execute it better & dont make high contact ... sydney stack cleaning up viney a couple of years ago is a good example, flyin ryan is another good exponent of it

You’re not wrong. The problem is we still barely understand the impact of subconcussive traumas one after the other.

Exactly. There’s no debate here; he jumped to hit a bloke. Only Caleb Daniel Ahmad a genuine argument for jumping to hip and shoulder.

Ever jumped to hip and shoulder someone? Me neither. It’s a conscious decision to go high.

Who mentioned anything about Dermott and dipper and “thugs”? I said bumps also known as a hip and shoulder just in case you weren’t aware.

The days of thugs like Brereton and Dipper being allowed to put people in hospital without consequence is well and truly over. Get with the times.

Yep which is exactly why Williams should cop the full force as he jumped into it which indicates premeditation and intent
