Couple of Roar games and a couple of Chelsea EPL games back in 2007/08 when I was in England. Saw Chelsea v Man U at Old Trafford - was the game where Jon Obi Mikel got sent off for a horrendous two footer on Tevez and Joe Cole should have been binned for almost slicing Ronaldo's Achilles in half. Huge atmosphere but so many arguments and abuse both before, during and after the game.
Melee? A word that only ever seems to be associated with this sport? Why is that?
Anyway, it was a violent bogan assault by a typical Tigers fan. Has the club or MCG banned him yet? If not, they are supporting violent bogan behaviour.
$322 fine is a bit light on. The public shouldn’t have to put up with this dangerous potentially life threatening behaviour and it shouldn’t rely on “victims pressing charges”. The government lawmakers need to crack down harder on violence.
Yeah, at least at the AFL fights break out after the game and after huge injections of alcohol
Soccer crowds go to the game looking for a fight, the game is secondary. Look at all the male PSG fans busted taking knuckle dusters, fireworks and drugs to a women's champions league game against Chelsea. None of them were going for the game.
Handbags at dawn.
In an 80k crowd tempers will flare once or twice a year.
It's not like the soccer where you had 6k people turn up with fighting and flares being ignited in the terraces.
They need to take a leaf out of the NRL's book and make sure there's plenty of space between spectators, so by the time they find someone else to fight with they've lost interest.
WOW!!! , after so many incidents last year and another brawl at this years first opener, that's what they came up with.... The police are really cracking down
Show me a sport – that doesn't have D-heads ... I know I'll be waiting a long time for an answer.
Victoria Police provided a statement early on Friday morning in relation to the fight late in the match.
"A 19-year-old man was arrested following an alleged assault at a football match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground last night.
"It is alleged a fight broke out between a number of males inside the stadium just before 10.30pm.
"An Eltham man received an infringement notice in regards to riotous behavior of $322.
"The victims did not wish to proceed with further police action."
Maybe if you paid attention instead of trying to bait you could get your facts right.
Nice to see this season has kicked off in the same manner as last year. I am sure AFL people will wash this away as just another a problem within society infiltrating the AFL. Interesting that after so many incidents the police say nothing.

I'm an atypical Tigers fan.

“A typical Tigers fan”?! That’s not true. The Tigers’ fans I know are generally well behaved, affable, charming & erudite companions.

Cops don't set how much the fine is. That isn't within their purview.

@Clipper Mate, You're obsessed with the NRL. You sound like a jilted girlfriend every time you post something.

It was after the match, stadium mostly empty and more of a scuffle than a "brawl".

Security was horribly lax there. And that Tigers supporter looking like Slim Shady should have a life ban and face jail. Absolute dog acts
