Ca have killed test cricket with dead wickets, ridiculous scheduling and stupid selection policies over the past decade. I barely watch it anymore and I love test cricket. It's lost it's soul and the T20 stupidity will be all there is soon enough. The fact that we had no test cricket or one day games for nearly two months after the AFL finished should lead to some heads rolling at CA, but it won't.

Casual sports fans also had a choice tonight, sit in the sun for hours waiting for the night session, or head to Perth Arena to watch a Wildcats game. With the conditions as they were and air conditioning at the hoops, I know what I'd choose.

heat is only going to get worse in aus too with climate change perhaps perth should be shuffled back to open the test summer in late november?

For everyone going about the weak crowd, its worth noting we are in the middle of one of the worst heat waves in years, three straight days over nearly 40 degrees plus. Trust me, you wouldn't want to spend five hours in the sun either if you were here.

but the point is it was worth pushing the rate earlier during day than at night either way when its much tougher to bat. We needed an order reshuffle to push more runs in afternoon. we could have then chased or taken the foot off the pedal in the evening depending where we were at going in after dinner . We should be ok tomorrow . we are level with the highest winning run chase right now just tricky with two seamers if we bowl in afternoon heat but should cool down later in afternoon tmw

......it's all to do with tele. Tele owns elite sport. That is the only reason we have day night Test Cricket. That is also why the AFL are intent on a day night GF being forced upon the faithful. We the punters have no ownership of respective codes today but then we are a symbiosis of this television sporting culture. This is also why the attendances are ordinary in Perth et el, since most of us are content to stay at home and watch it on pay tv.

Well to be positive , NZ will have to score the highest run chase in test history to win 418 is the best run chase by the windies. The only small seed of doubt is two pace bowlers but should get there with the spinners and two night sessions . Could do it comfortably too still . Just seeing the first session off , preferably a bit more will help

Re the commentators, they are paid by the multi national networks to indulge in hyperbole. Tele owns sport at this tier, so in that respect if you tune in you are a symbiosis of the culture of plastic sports entertainment. Cricket is no longer sacrosanct from the crass commercialisation that has compromised elite sport today.

interesting some people loved the waca and the aussies were on fire there traditionally with bat and ball. Was a big home advantage . I wonder if optus or perth stadium as some like to remind me is a bit more neutral . Seems so even though we look to be dominating in first two tests there.

Some issues going in to MCG . If NZ win the toss there and boult plays it gets quite even for me. Pattinson will be suited to mcg per his average and I would have rotated him in anyway. Smith will improve there for me too and SCG. Starc moving off pink ball to mcg and lyon don't have great averages there and were poor last year . All things to be aware of going there. Aussies need to bat a session tomorrow but preferably a session and half

Its a competitive pitch I agree , its gives a bit to the bowlers . Still two days to go and we may well make it comfortably in to 5th day for a result

I'm from WA but not Perth anymore, as the waca and Subi where awful to watch sport Optus has been excellent here though it's a modern place with no history yet.

I think hell come good with red ball back at mcg and at scg smith , pink ball going softer and medium pace doesn't totally suit him actually

If the bowlers really do have this kind of advantage we can't have D/N Tests. It makes a mockery of 140 years of tradition. Or at least make D/N Tests a completely separate category to normal Tests.
