98 overs to bowl. 14 wickets to get. Australia have a task in front of them to secure victory against South Africa on the final day of the Test match summer. Join The Roar for live scores from 10am (AEDT).
After declaring following a delay for a wet outfield, adding on from the complete Day 3 washout, Australia struck repeatedly to leave the Proteas 6/149 at the close of play.
South Africa have had a nightmare tour, and a draw here would at least allow them to salvage some pride from the wreckage. But with Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood looking ominous, and Nathan Lyon’s spin sure to take a key role, they’ll need to channel the spirit of their stonewalling effort from Adelaide in 2012 to get the job done.

A longer list than batters who could have delivered a win. And he doesn't need to take all 8 wickets, only a couple of crucial ones that open the door for others.

Not dusty grip. Sorry about the typo

Looked pretty dry old wicket to me Grand. But seriously Lyon needs bounce with his overspin ot dusty grip. Hope that analytical enough

If we couldn't enforce follow on, so be it, just go out and score some more. We had enough data to know, roundabout, how many runs should be enough (based on SA performances in last 12 months, especially last 2 tests). Control what you can and declare based on a run target, that strong evidence suggests is beyond them.

Who is this mythical bowler who is going to take 8 more wickets?

Just as long as Agar isn't there

Can't believe there is no Shield before Feb - when does the BBL end?

Yeah....He was the obviously the main man of the series against SA in 2018 as well...for very different reasons. Argument is, why should sentiment come into selection. Reward the player that has performed across the 3 tests...probably 5 players ahead of him.

I suppose it depends on your measure. I guess if you asked who generated the most column inches and commentary, on the basis of any advertising being better than none...?

Agree Zampa is who I would go with too. I know he doesn't have the red ball record but he is family with touring India and the Indian players. Reckon they're going Agar tho

I missed the last Test. How is it possible for professional cricketers with all the support staff and science, with all the glove and extra drink breaks to get cramps is cincerning

It reeks to me of "look we cant drop him now, he was man of the series against south africa!"

Well done Australia....but how on earth did Warner get Man of Series....it implies consistency. What a joke...200 runs scored in one innings of 213. My pick would have been Cummins or Travis

I want radio cricket to return to ball by ball description, leaving commentary to the 'experts'. Stuart Clark and Dirk Nannes are not experts. They played some good cricket at a certain level. Kim Hughes is an expert.

A bowler instead of Renshaw could have delivered a win. selections should have been more aggressive

yeah, we won't agree on that. 6-1-4 all seems good when you have a couple of champions in your 4, but with an average attack?? no way. Also, what happens when one of your 4 twists an ankle, or losses form/focus in a match - both happen a lot, and you're down to 3 bowlers + a part-time or 2. And your prospects of winning plummet. And this test stuffs up your argument, we went into this test with 6-4-1 and it served to be pointless and we lost a winning opportunity. Chances of winning would have skyrocketed with another bowling option instead of Renshaw.
